Did a job today for a nationwide attic insulation co. who I repair their foot thru ceiling jobs in the south east.

The job today was a typical house (20/30's) in Enfield, nth London. Funny thing was the ceiling was boarded with a kind of flexible MDF. Bumpy as feck. The old dear who lived there told me the ceiling was original and that many houses on the street have similar ceilings.

Any one else seen these type of boards ?

yes mate i had a job for the same sort of company house in hoddesdon really thin mdf ceilin almost just cardboard, i think i ended up casting a bit of board to the joist side of the hole (from above) then skimming out (cuddnt find board thin enough), was the ceilin broke up into lots of little squares

No, this board was about 15mm thick but like flexible MDF. Never seen it before but all the houses in the road have at least one ceiling in them. At least 70 yrs old

ive never seen it that thick before, the job ive just finished in london all the walls and ceilins in the common parts were real thin mdf it all had to be cased in fireboard

Come across those boards a few times in London it seems like new products were being brought onto the market between the wars as companies tried to speed up construction time from the old lath & plaster system.
One of the products was asbestos sheets.

Ive come across asbestos sheet, 60s built and it was blue on a council house when i phoned the council they said not possible not used at that time, i just gave up and carried on with the job but as has been said many things were tried after the war you come across some strange things at times.Eddie what are you working in MY MANOR.

irish was the mdf shite skimmed over?

It looked like MDF but it wasn't. It was skimmed over but the joints weren't scrimmed, not even hessian. Gear was well stuck to the board and I got a good mouthfull of the dust :RpS_scared:

The old bird knew a bit about the local streets history and claims the builder that built the street was always drunk :RpS_thumbsup:

Enfield Chase Andy, too posh for you :RpS_laugh:
