I realise we all work for different rates of pay per day across the uk, so if the job takes two hours Then it would £25 per. Up to 4 hours £ 20 per hour. 6-8 hours a flat charge of £150. Am not saying I would charge these rates just trying see what others would charge on this sliding scale, or would you go on what the job involves rather then a rate
of pay.

I just price each job on what it's worth and on it's own merrits...

I got an insurance job to do next week, it's only a meter patch to skim, I went in at £250 and she jumped at it, she also wants me to skim an artex ceiling when there, so I said £120 if I can do it with the insurance job, will proberly have to wait 30 days for money for the patch, but nice little job for a change!

It depends on what the job involves. Ive got a double bedroom to skim and put coving up, skim small bedroom ceiling and cove. All in same bungalow this coming week for £1100 including mats.

80 to 100 quid a day,no wonder your busy

minus tax and other expenses, you might as well go on the books for someone.

Well a £100 a day sounds ok if your getting 5 days in. The only problem with it is in real terms it is £80 a day after tax. Then we have to think about running cost and so the expences go on. In real terms we need £150 a day just to stay in the game or we go backwards in terms of earnings.

£150 per day is the minimum otherwise as Owls said, you may as well go on the books! As self emp you have to take into account van running costs, advertising, accountant fees,no sick pay,no holiday pay etc. Then the hassle of running around pricing jobs you dont get. BTW had a quote to fit a new fanbelt to my 4x4 today,£50!!! for a 20 min job!! I dont think £150 for a days plastering is at all expensive.

if u get 3 days a week at 150 a day that £450 u myt as well charge £100 a day and get 5 days. £500 evy job i quote 4 i ring back and ask um if they hapey with the price.if they ways my time.cash them on the spot and they yes

I think what your saying is your rate of hundred a day, you nore or less get 5 days a week charging that price. I would sooner work for 150 a day and do 3 days for 450.

This realy gets my back up people charging £80-£100 a day on domestic work you are just f*cking it up for evrey one else i dont know how old you people are but probably to young to ever have earnt any decent money but carry on you will soon be old F*cked and skint.

I've earnt decent money in the past, been in the the game 28 years now, Domestic work in January and February i'd say are the worst two months, admittedly i'm use to getting the £150 a day but at the moment when bills need to be payed you tend to notice if you keep asking for that rate you'll never get no work because everyone else is undercutting everyone, hope it picks up soon but until then i'll be charging around the £80/£100, done a bedroom ceiling last friday for £70, just for a bit of beer money.

i like to earn £80 for a half day and £130 for a full day. I usualy get most of the work i quote for but some say they have had a more competitive quote. If i am short of work i will go for £100 a day but the customer wont get a smile or conversation out of me!

Stokplasterer if £80 to £100 a day keeps the work coming in does that not tell you something ?? If the works coming in the work is there, all your doing is slowly bringing the rates down for the trade by flapping over nothing. Admittedly day rates differ up and down the country as does the cost of living, its all relevant and the work is there.

Blackhurst £100 a day is not reasonable with the "way things are at the moment", you need to charge the rate or what your worth. !! we cant do anything about the economy or greedy customers its human nature to try and get a deal, But you can grow a set and stop being so spineless. Every time you go and under quote on a job your shitting on other spreads that have stood their ground on rates, eventually every man will have to lower what they work for, nothing to do with how things are at the moment but everything to do with the fact that you and a small few need to F*****g MAN UP and start having a bit of self worth.

I know of and have read of blokes on here that are struggling for work, that still wont drop their rates, they might not have a full week like your self but they have their pride. Any one can be a busy fool.

your absolutly correct but even private jobs round here wont pay more than 100 a day and thats that.i price jobs at 150 a day and never ever get them so what would you do keep getting no work or drop your prices and raise them when you have enuff work.

ive just done 2 bathroom ceilings and a toilet in a 6 bed massive house the guy told me its half a days work.i go and look and he s just had them marbled walls and floor and walk in showers with doors huge free standing baths toilet and sink. i told him its 3 days work.he laughed at me cudnt understand why i needed to mask and sheet out and properly protect everything. he told me i could do it for 250 with him buying every thing.now it was a tuff job as you can imagine one i would normally want 7-8 hundred for,i had no work on so did it and to be fair it went well and it was an easy 3 days but only because i spent the best part of a day and a half masking.
oh it was over stipple artex with new down lights £250 whoa off to the bahamas for me

The problem with working for £100 day your not investing in your self for the future its all short term thinking. So £100 a day is better then £0 a day your going to say and true it is. But in real terms it's £80 a day after tax and you have not bought a ni stamp what about wear tear on tools and big one all the cost what involved running a van /car. And here is another thing at a £100 day your doing your own laboring so your do 2 jobs for the price of one. It's fecking hard to know what to do for the best, but I think what could happen is prices could drop even to £80 a day if there is no real growth in the building trade. I dont no of any other trades what droping there prices like plastering is.

ive had to do the same rock, i cud not find any work and the only thing that was offerd to me was 2 days skimming 40 miles away for 100 a day, i was left with my hands tied really i had no work thus no money and ive got a second baby due in 11 days so i have to work, i hate under selling myself but at the moment i really dnt have a choice,
my family need a home and food to eat. when i first started plastering 10 years ago i felt like people respected our trade but now i feel like the general public think they could do it, but they think thier doin us a favour by giving us the job after driveing us down on price, ive had people say to me "but your trades easy so why are you telling me the price is £...... , i could do it myself but i dnt have time"
******* ignorant non appretciative T***s, makes me angry that ive worked so hard to try build up my craft and name to then be treated like a piece of crap by joe public
