Archway prepped for plaster, but I didn’t use corner bead.

New to plastering, I’m finished prepping an arch way for the plaster coats, but I’m realizing I may have messed up not using a corner bead, I got the corners looking nice and strait using joint compound and sanding. Aesthetically it looks good but I’m worried structurally I might have a problem due to not using corner beads. Do I need to attach the beads anyway to prevent problems, or can I go ahead with plastering coats since the corners looks strait anyway?

Good try but we're not fooled

Yes
Multi various angle beads available and arch kits

What would be the consequence of not using a bead? I already have a clean corner and I’m gonna put up a two coat plaster system.

You've done it now haven't you?

Just put your skim bead on and go for it.

If the corner falls off eventually when you breathe on it then just ring @Casper and he'll put you right.

He has vast experience of hiding cock ups

As in a metal stop bead does that work?
I’ve used metal thin coat stop beads for a shallow arch so long as you get a good fixing! but prefer the plastic ones.
If it’s a reskim and the arch is in good nick I’ve also used the external corner trowel near the end of the set.

Im only asking as its uncanny as ive just boarded a pretty shallow wall today and would save me a trip out my way to a merchants in morning wity a stop bead.

If it helps I.m on a job he told me a price. I thought that was for upstairs but was for whole job . I was planning on a right spending spree. Thought it was more free money
Mate ive literally worked last 4 days for free and still need few days there next week just for good measure been along time since a dropped a changer like this...hey ho least its macd friday tomorrow

Ive priced this job that badly a flexi bead from travis perkins will just about finish me off
Cheer up. I worked for an old woman once for a week for £50.

Too longa story to relate here and now but i truly truly f**k*d that one up.

Couldn’t make that s**t up.
I felt sorry for her so i put in a cheap price.

Then there was a problem with a lintel.

Then i couldn't match the dash. Took me two days to find it and it was the most expensive dash on earth. And £50 of diesel looking for it.

And on and on and on

It does as a last resort mate. Can be a right nightmare and a mixture of staples nails and adhesives! Can be a right ballache ...Plastic flexi beads are much better. The time you spend mucking about with stop Bead you might aswell hop in the van and go to a merchants for the flexi

Anyone who does bigger jobs than Mrs Jones lounge will have done the same at some point mate.

And sometimes your happy with the price but did not know you was working for a scamming lie-ing person who does not pay you then ends up scarpering off leaving a trail of bailiffs and court summons behind

So your saying I should put a bead, or run the risk of having my corner fall off. But I’d like to understand why not including a bead would cause that?
