red deisel

Yup. Probably not a lot of red used on smaller sites - groundwork plant mostly? Bigger operators will have already factored the cost in.
Some of the crane operators and developers are starting to use/test using F1 derived flywheel generators to reduce the standby/peak power needs and size of the main generator. Big fuel savings apparently.

I was thinking of much smaller sites, less than 10 plots, where its mainly labour once you get out of the ground, but you're right, many have a power lifter on site for the duration.
Lot of the small sites I go on are hooking up to mains power only. They rely on the trades having battery tools.

A lot of it goes in my van perks of site work
I have had my vehicles dipped several times by the ministry of transport for red diesel.
I have been on site when they dipped every vehicle. on the lorries they check to make sure the tank has not got 2 fill up points. a small section at the front for white diesel and a large one for red hid under a tarp.

Why they stopping use it?
It costs more to produce red diesel it needs to have dye added.
A local chap got summons for purchasing red diesel and filtering the colour out for resale. The small garage that he purchased the red from had the highest red sales in the country.

Half of the taxi drivers in Manchester run on it mainly Asians no one cares

I was always told that it's just white diesel with a die in it, every time I've run it through vans in the past I've f***** the injectors up
