A few bits and bobs

Hello,

Moved in to 100yr old house few months ago and it's clear the plaster is blown in many places. I'm in process of taking all the old stuff off ready to get plasterers in to make good.

Question I have is around wet plastering vs plasterboard & skim, my preference is for the former as its more in keeping with the property but also you don't have any air gaps (an issue for sound and when mounting things). I get PB and skim can get a flat finish very quickly but not sure if a benefit outside of that. So given I've got a whole house that will need doing and this is turning into a predictable money pit, can anyone give me ballpark cost difference in getting a plasterer to do one vs the other?

Secondly, I'm getting windows replaced (before plasterers are in) and was wondering if I can leave original architrave up or will plasterers need removed for a better finish?

Thanks in advance for your help

You pay the money you take the choice
Why you choosing price tags rather choose to renovate, upgrade or bodge

Ok so potentially there could be little in it if materials can broadly be offset by labour. Sounds like wet plastering it is.

Perhaps another consideration, given age of property would it make sense to have them fit insulated plasterboard to the internal walls that face externally on the other side and then wet plaster all internal/internal walls?

Just thinking in terms of retaining heat

Yeah be better .

if it was my house i would deffo go for solid plastering over dot n dab,,,price difference and time is not that much,,only probs you are going to get is finding a good all round spread to do it for you,,,its all dot n dab skim and monokoosh these days,,,,take architrave off and de-nail frames

Finding good trades across the spectrum is always a challenge. After 5 months of searching finally got top plumbers/sparks but haven't started the search for a plasterer yet but will get on it.

From what I can tell the best thing for the property given age/construction is to do a combination of finishes i.e. D&D insulated foil-backed plasterboard to the inside face of external walls and then get all internal/internal walls wet plastered. Do I need to be hunting out those that use lime plaster for this or is standard hardwall/multifinish fine?
