Plastering over old cracked plaster

Hi,
I was going to have a room skimmed today but the plasterer tapped a few places on old our plaster and found a couple of hollow bits. They seem to be limited to small areas of one wall (approx 300x600mm against one corner). I was advised to rip off all of the old plaster on two of the walls but would rather avoid this due to the mess. So the question is - can you just remove the small areas of loose old plaster and then go ahead with skimming? I get that some form of board or bonding would be needed in the areas removed.

The blockwork won't be tied in if at worse scenario bend some eml around the angle but I always put some roofing felt on first then eml

Everyone on planet earth would 'rather avoid due to the mess', but what's more important to you?

Generally, it's a fairly safe bet that if old plaster has blown (delaminated) from the wall in some areas, the rest is likely to follow, over time. Looking at your photo, I see plenty more cracks - are you under the impression that if the wall doesn't sound hollow there, then the cracks are meaningless and the plaster there is perfectly sound?

ffs some people think a coat of skim will solve everything

your skim will only ever be as good as the background you are going onto

do as you've been advised...... hack it off and start again
