Hi i wanted to redecorate my down stairs toilet room, there is already a white matt paint on it but it needs a fresh lick of paint. I have sanded down some of the walls where previous paint was peeling and sanded some imperfections out. To stop further bubbles and peeling I mixed 1 part Pva with water and started using a roller to paint it on the walls before giving it a fresh coat of paint, however just from the pva mix the old paint is starting to bubble. Any ideas on what im doing wrong? Thanks

any pictures? You shouldn’t have used pva as a base for paint, it’s no good for that. Before anyone can advise they’d need to see it as could be a damp problem or just paint not sticking as it should.

Most likely fresh plaster was painted with emulsion and no mist coat.

You'll have to scrapeit all off and start again.

Actually, I think that's quite a sensible answer, and I was thinking the same.

If old paint wasn't mist-coated originally, then rolling watery PVA over it would very likely cause further bubbling of the old paint.

If so, yes, best to scrape the whole lot off and do it properly.

Alternatively, are there any damp issues with the wall, Sharniexxx7? (as stuart mentioned)
Even properly applied emulsion won't stick, longterm, to a wall with damp issues.
