Best way to get into plastering?

Hello, I really want to leave my current job and train to be a plasterer. I’m just not sure on the best way to go about it. Am I right in thinking you don’t need a qualification to become a plasterer? I’ve seen “intensive” courses for £850, showing you the basics, and an NVQ level 3 for £2500 (which I don’t have at the moment)

I’m also Thinking of ringing some local plasterers and offering to Labour for free as well in exchange for training/ advice. I’ve plastered a lot of my house myself and have got to a decent standard but not one that I would feel comfortable charging for. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Advice would be don't charge £40 for a patch because it's "it's on the way home" @johnj

Where are you based mate?

Another I got sparkly tools gone into someone's home and devistated them! Then left customers with no trust in tradesman!
Try asda mate or get on site with @algeeman

It takes years to master buddy skimming is stage 1 pretty much the first thing you learn to do completely forgot any courses as it's all about experience on the tools and even then you'll need to be with someone who knows how to go about it I've seen hundreds of so called plasterers that haven't got a clue and would get you doing it all wrong, there's so much to take in good luck

Everything you said bud is correct! Look for helping other plasterers an find your own feet that way. Courses is a option but limited in situations etc. All good plastering is experience really. Don’t be bought into the qualification side of it. I’ve seen plenty level 3 plasteres work an it’s not great. Youl be as good as how you apply yourself to become good. Don’t take note of negative comments or opinions, if you do you won’t achieve anything in life with others peoples fears in changing careers. Atb.
