Repairing small section in corner of the ceiling

Hi,

Advice please.

Repairing ceiling in utility room where there has previously been water damage, small section right in the corner of the ceiling approximately 40cm x 20 cm.

A section of plasterboard has been cut out running along where the joist is. I was planning on cutting the board back to the middle of joist so I can attach new board, putting noggins around the other sides. Planning on using 9.5mm board (currently board 12.5mm), put a bit of bonding on to fill out then feather in with multi.

Is this a good idea or is this going to crack? Any recommendations please?

Thanks

What would you suggest Neth?
Using the product as its meant to be used?
If you think you can sand it after 20minutes you've either never used it or have left some terrible work

I’ve never used it so if you have some helpful advise it would be appreciated.

Why would I need to be a decorator to know you can't sand Easifill after 20mins?
Because if you are a decorator then you would have experience in using easifill. Why a plasterer would have knowledge on using fillers is beyond me!

Because it's a better product than multi for certain jobs. I don't think you really need to have used the product to know you can't sand it down in 20 minutes though, kind of common sense

If it’s a product for filling then that’s surely a job for a decorator! Kind of common sense.

Couple of coats around 30mins to an hour apart and then sand the next day with fine sandpaper, around 120 grit

Repair, fill, get the heater on. Sand half hour later, re-fill, heater on, sand, fock off.
Why would you sand a first coat lol
Does anyone in here know what they're doing?

because sometimes you get a few high spots etc and since a ceiling isn’t like plate glass, then it’ll need to feather out and go with the undulations.

Like you said, you don’t use filler that often, but I probably use it more than you and know what I’m doing with it.

I know I can get a first coat of it flat enough to not sand

It just depends depends depends.

I did a little toilet refurb earlier this week. Replaced old rad with a towel rad and had to chase pipe work in. Bond chase out. Wall isn’t particularly flat, so takes a couple of fills to get it as good as can be, so a quick flick after first coat isn’t too much to ask.

Have you ever repaired car bodywork and prepped a car for spraying?

Thanks for this. I’ve a heat gun I can use, don’t really wish to have to go back another day, so seems a good option.

Thoughts on Fibafuse joint tape, would you recommend? If so just over the joints on ceiling or where the walls meet also?

Know where your coming from, i can do same with board adhesive, never cracks

in an ideal world but it’s f**k**g filler. If you need to use a couple of coats to get it right and need to knock the top off a couple of areas then no problem. Why do people have to be so pedantic!

I wouldn't use a heat gun, just let it dry properly. Setting time and drying time aren't the same thing, sanding it to early and it clogs up the sanding screens and marks the finish coat.

Just read back, if it takes one cost happy days, if it takes two coats, then thats what it needed..

Great thanks all, going to repair and use easifill 20. Use a small indirect heater, 2 coats and sand down with 120gt.

finally please, joint tape, needed? If so is Fibafuse joint tape the best option? And if so just over the joints on ceiling or where the walls meet also?
