All Renders are shite in this country, got the wrong climate for it. Give me a traditional brick build any day of the week. Timber frames with thin coat are a the biggest joke cardboard houses sound hollow when u bang the wall lol

They all crack mate is the point, if they are gonna crack they will

Some manufacturers say they are breathable...are they f**k...I've had a couple blow in areas where water has got behind...basically this stuff is 0.1 on the breathability scale...basically Sandtex pant with a couple of handfuls of sand thrown in

Silicone base render breathable lol

Sandtex paint is breathable.

Sandtex paint is breathable.

Yes it is but how breathable? A product can can be marketed as breathable but on the scale of breathability it could be near 0.1. Would you put Sandtex paint over a lime render?

This is what I'm saying thin coat renders marketed as breathable are basically not breathable.

Well Sandtex can go over render that has a fair moisture content without blowing off, so is breathable to a point.

Maybe for a cement rendered property ok but the stuff is not breathable enough for any kind of heritage work...painting stones etc which it is often used for painting sandstone bay windows.

Problem is people see the 'breathable' and think OK but this paint is not ok for the majority of applications that require a breathable finish...same as with thin coat.

Water getting behind render and a wall being breathable are completely different things though?

Not in my eyes if water gets into a breathable lime render in any form it will breath out...because its breathable...if water gets behind a silicone thin coat render it may blow it gets trapped...heated by the sun and turns to vapour, expands and pressure blows the thin coat. Wouldn't happen on a 100% lime render because it's BREATHABLE!
