After of over a year of development and testing, we are excited to launch the New NELA Black Edition Elite Premium Trowel

NELA’s Elite Premium Finishing trowel is a new dynamic trowel developed to provide the optimum finishing of all common materials.

Many of you will ask, why another trowel? Its an easy answer.... Because we have improved our old Premium based on feedback from Professionals such as yourselves. Many said the old one was too hard to break in, so we improved it. So said it felt too stiff, we therefore improved the quality of the steel and changed the manufacturing process wo ensure a better all round product

A unique design including our exclusive black cork ergonomic handle. The Elite has been manufactured with a higher quality stainless steel blade enabling you to create a sharper edge in a shorter period of time.

The new material used for the new NELA ELITE is by far the best yet and we are proud to have now created a Masterpiece in the finishing tool category.

Mines is bigger than that ... and watfc?

Reading up on the replies on here and decided to buy a 16" version. I've got the 14" MT Permashape and a 14" Black edition flexi. My local builders merchants have the 16" Gold permashape but thought I'd give the Nela a chance as I've been using Nelas for years (11" Superflexes).
I'll certainly give it an honest review. Not up to stretching for the 18" yet as I'm just getting used to 14" trowels after all these years...

I tend to agree with some of the earlier comments. Once over I used to break in trowels on sand & cement before progressing to last trowel on skimming. Eventually being able to skim fully with a trowel was the time to buy a new one and start to break that in. Once took me a year to break in a Tyzack Centenary Double Tang.. That thing was the death of me until finally one day it hit the sweet spot. Nearly threw it a few times.. They stopped making them then. It was like someone had cut a slab of steel and threw a handle on it. Eventually it just worked perfectly. Still miss those trowels, but not the breaking them in.

Was always dubious about the broken in 'pre worn' trowels. Other spreads at the time I knew thought t was a gimmick as you need to break them in by using them. Just filing the edges a bit isn't pre-wearing them. A properly worn in trowel isn't square, it's narrower at the toe. Looking at my s*p*r*lex II, the top edge is straight, the bottom edge curves from being drawn back in an arc and wearing the toe end quicker. Impossible to manufacture into a trowel as all spreads, er, spread differently. Although the MT I bought recently was usable straight off the peg with no lines and that surprised me.

My Nela turned up Friday more bent than graham Norton
Where did you get it from? All my Nelas have come from Ryan's place direct. Can't fault the bloke for sorting any issues out tbf. I'll just have to wait and see, and go from there.

Not from there unfortunately will see how the phone call goes tomorrow

Got one over a month now, brilliant to put on with, not ready yet to use it on second coat which I do with my mt. Its getting there though. I like it.

So why not cut out the middleman and put both coats on with MT?

maybe get rid of the mt altogether for skimming (y)
