Who's out today then?

My place is an old gravel pit mate and originally the fish would have been stocked by the first angling club that controlled it. Most of the species then breed successfully enough to sustain their populations. Carp don't breed successfully in a lot of lakes (such as mine) and need restocking from time to time. And they're not cheap!
what about the lake andy ,how big and deep is it, and do you ever have to put some thing in the lake to keep water clean ,

I'm not surprised they don't servive ,with you lot sticking big hooks in there faces and chucking them about.

The Pool is just under two acres and the deepest area is around 6ft. Probably around 4.5ft average.
I apply barley straw extract at certain times of the year to suppress the algae. This in turn helps with dissolved oxygen fluctuations.

Is that your own lake . Looks nice.
ive really got to start going more . On a waiting list for a syndicate. But with people with more time on their hands it could be a while
Yes mate I've had it for over five years now. A lot of hard work but fun at the same time.

Not to my fish they don't.
Mine is a man-made lake so not their natural habitat. Your loch and rivers are entirely different.
Andy why was your lake man made ?
i was working at Hatfield Peveral a while ago there was 5 small lakes in a row. when i asked about them i was told that they where old bomb craters .

Therefore, they were also man-made, were they not?

I recall some BBC program or other, showing old workings, from a camera in a helicopter. I think they were where flint had been 'mined', centuries ago. They looked like big dished hollows in the land

yes they where man made. they where round and small.
Andy lake looks a lot bigger on the photos, but to small to have been a farmers reservoir. it could well have been an old sand quarry as there are sand pits in that area.

Oh didn't realise you were local.
I'm sure it was Churchwood that a few of my mates helped net recently.
Not the little syndicate over the road from the park? Can't remember it's name. Plenty of catfish in

That's it Rochetts. Never heard of Luxborough. Sounds just like when I used to fish The Essex Quarry back in the early/mid nineties, five fish in twenty odd acres. Had the place pretty much to myself. Have you ever fished the Quarry?
