K-rend price rise

Hi all

We were due to have the front of our house re-rendered with k-rend.

Had the old loose sand and cement knocked back and the builder is claiming he's under priced it and is going to either walk away or ask for more money.

Searching around, general guide prices range between £35 to £50 a sq metre (up north anyway).

Is this still the case? Has the cost of materials risen recently?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Tell your builder to f**k off. Purely on the basis that he doesn't honour a quote AFTER he's started to rip your home apart.

as you are only having the front of your house rendered you can't go with a metre price for small areas.
you don't need a middleman snatching a cheque, employ an experienced plastering contractor.

All depends on how many m2 there is, 10 square or 100 or 1000

Utterly ridiculous carry on.

We were having a few jobs done including roof repairs and new gutters so was getting everything that needed scaffold done at the same time.

Not really enough square metre to go off the price per m2 you was stating. Domestics need about a flat 40m2 before a metrage kicks in I find. More how many days plus profit plus risk of loss. Topcoating is twice the time this time of year.
This is what people don't understand.this is why meterage prices should not be discussed on here should be a blanket ban on it.it might be £35-£50 per meter up north but that will be subbing for a outfit where ur getting repeat work from, not some 2 bit domestic job

Ah fair enough.

I suspect he's looked and then pulled the price out of nowhere. Problem now is he seems to be avoiding my calls.

Alarm bells should've sounded when he massively overpriced other jobs for us.

as far as I'm aware, yes. But it wouldn't surprise me if it becomes an additional cost, if it happens.
It wouldn't surprise you that he would charge you to do reveals as a additional cost..im starting to piece a picture up and I can see why he's done a runner and not answering your calls

Sadly I think I'll end up putting this down to experience.

What i think was meant by the question have you taken out windows was meant . You shouldn't have.
It takes as long to mess about with heads and reveals as it does if there was no window at all

Sorry johnh, i thought he was asking if the windows had been taken out of the m2 measurement in terms of area to be rendered.

Did you measure it and take out the window measurements.
Its irrelevant anyway if ithe areas not worth doing on a usual meterage rate due to awkwardness etc
