Damp patch gable end wall - Victorian terrace

Hi all just wondering if anyone can help with a small damp patch that seems to have arose with all the bad weather we have been getting.
house is an Victorian terrace with a gable end.
brick and pointing from the outside looks ok and nothing would suggest it’s getting in from that way. The patch is on the ground floor and there doesn’t seem to be any damp patches anywhere else. With the house being old it does suffer a little from condensation, could this be the problem or would I see these type of patches throughout? Could it be getting in from the roof and the fact that these old houses don’t have a cavity could be tracing across? But then maybe I would expect it to be other patches?
Any advice is much appreciated

We probably have more questions than you do!
Is that a solid external wall with original plaster work on it?
If so there must be a corresponding problem not far at all from that patch on the outside?

Hi thanks for the response. i do have a picture of the plasterwork prior to it being decorated as i took a video of the whole property. So its had a DPC by the looks of it before i owned it at some point. there doesnt seem to be anything out of the obvious or could i be missing something? I would just expect if it was coming from the outside wall if it was maybe some water getting in through a bit of broken brick or pointing the patch would be coloured and dirty looking as oppose to being completely clear like it is?

That's one way to avoid scribing the skirting board.

Was all that lower section hacked off because of damp issues?

I have no idea I would probably assume so, i only bought the house 6 months ago. I have had carpets up and all timbers have been replaced within the last 5 years I’d say and everything is dry underneath the house. No evidence of it coming from underneath.

First guess: water ingress from an obvious point on the other side (outside) which should be easy to spot. Failing that...
Second guess: does that wet patch in your first picture correlate to the white patch in your second picture? Is it a patch of lime based material absorbing water from the atmosphere inside?
Fourth guess: what happened to the third guess?
Fifth guess: very much doubt the Second guess is of any help! I’m out of guesses now
You need a better response from someone else :rebotando:

Thanks for the guess’ will triple check outside to see any points of cocern. The white pollyfilla doesn’t sit in the same position I’m afraid as I thought the same it’s further to the right and appears to be a little higher. The poly filla was just used to fill a few marks on the wall so they didn’t show through when papering. Do you think it could be anything roof related? Or would I expect to see patches in the above bedroom?

Water can track along from its initial Ingress point to another point in a property before it is noticed but no way is one patch at knee height coming from a roof with a gable end without showing up along the way elsewhere
