Grateful if someone can advise the best way to plaster over internal clay brick.

Thistle Bond Technical support advise that its product is suitable for use prior to plastering. Is this a good approach or is plaster bard fixed to brick preferable or is there An alternative approach.

thanks.

What are you intending to plaster over the bricks with?

Plaster is proposing thistle bond it applied to clay bricks followed by sand cement scratch coat and then skimmed finish.

I had previously been advised it would need to be boarded and then skimmed So not sure which is best.

I can't understand why any spread wouldn't be happy to just apply sand and cement straight on to bricks?

You must first ascertain the beginning. Once found that will be the best place to start. ..........
Just render & set it.

Not sure what you mean by ‘you must first ascertain the beginning’
I just need to know if there is an adhesion issue with plaster taking to clay bricks and what the best solution is.

Solid wall or cavity
Not sure if it's appropriate on solid , but never used grit
If I'm doubt get the foam out

What exactly do you mean by "clay brick"? Most bricks are made from clay aren't they?
Every day is a school day , perhaps his house is made from driveway blocks lol

Steve I'm honestly baffled by this. Even engineering bricks can be gone over if they've been laid correctly.
I know.

I'm just telling you that concrete bricks aren't made of clay.

They're made of concrete.

And people who ask questions like the OP should probably reconsider their DIY projects.

Bricks seem to be soft mud clay very dusty and brittle, easily worn away and fixings work free easily. They also seem to Soak up water easily and retain heat thus causing expansion.
it may be that there is no right or wrong answer and just plasterers preference for scratch coating or fixing bias and skimming.

They look like bog standard facing bricks to me. As long as they're clean just float and set as normal.

Wet them, slurry coat maybe, scratch coat, leave it awhile, then float it all nice in sand cement, then skim it. The beginning will be the place you start.
A journey of a million miles starts with a single step.

Soaps or suds? something like that, i have used them in Ireland.

Oh. I did a job with a brickie a while back. I seem to remember him saying something like that.

Didn't know what he meant and never bothered asking

I found some extra long bricks in his work afterwards. I presumed he meant them

Soap bars.

@D Will So is this a previously external wall now inside due to some sort of extension? And/or is it a single skin wall that is going to get weather on it the other side?

It is internal cavity wall. Just got tired of the brick and looking to modernise by plastering over the clay brick which has become very dusty.
