I’m at college doing my nvq for plastering and for college I need an argument for a presentation to do with skim. I’ve been on for two years which is a blink to most of you on here. I just need the argument for why people don’t like plastics and people who do and the same about metal flex’s. Don’t care what they are.

@Vincey The trowel don .If a trowel has been produced he would of tried it . :sisi:

Plastics are really only useful for the finish or “ the shine “ at the end of the set. Even then I use my flexi for the final trowel and the shine as I think it’s the best finish. Very rarely only if the skimcoat is “wavy shite” do I take out the plastic

I use my St blue plastic all the time two quick flattens you could argue that it sets the gear up for a better finish , and that the flexi metal would ruin it

how do you get rid of “shadows” that happen when you don’t apply enough pressure on the 2nd trowel?

lay it on flatten with speed skim on both coats let it pick up trickle of water trowel up with Marshalltown twitch and brush angles give it a cross with the Marshalltown then a last wipe with the spazzyflex sorted

Plastic flex too much. Scratches in blade need to be delt with and because that bit more flex you can't feel the surfaces so well. You can't level out bumps so well. The timing of when you use the plastic is more critical and the ends off the speed skim vanish and mine is wrapped with duck tape. Don't ever use now. Might cut up..

Not sure I agree with myself with some of that but just throwing that in for your collage

Read all of these. Passed my nvq with distinctions. I lay on. Speedskim it good enough to just second coat that. New PF speedskim. Second coat. Then just a goldflex all the way to the end. I cannot use the plaziflex refina ones anymore. Waste of fkn money. At £30 a blade it’s not worth it.

PLastic and flexy trowels are only good when you get your timings right... if you get them wrong then it looks like an ocean when teh light shines down it :D

I had a few wavey walls at first but it was only test walls so problems but if it was for a customer I would have been embarrassed.
