Hello,

Newish non- professional member here but with 30 years fairly extensive general building experience which has involved building and restoring two stone barns and several houses so can probably be described as beyond weekend DIY stage. Have self taught myself to plaster internally on walls and ceilings with gypsum based products onto plasterboard and cement rendered walls. Have previously plastered internally a whole 5 bedroom house to a standard that I am happy with.
I have dipped in and out of the forum for much valuable advice for which I am very grateful but haven't contributed previously because I don't feel qualified to offer others advice when there are time served professionals on the forum who are far more experienced that I am.

I am now hoping to use the forum to get some valuable advice of using lime render as this is something I need to consider for the most recent project on my own house.

Thank you

What would you like to know about lime render my friend?

Hi Tappit,

Thanks for the reply.

I have found the world of lime pretty confusing as there are so many different options for different situations, locations and finish....not to mention the new ready mixed bagged modern versions that then confuse the matter even more.
My initial question was about this time of year and whether it was too late to render a large south west facing wall stone ( 90m2 ) with NHL 3.5 ?
I have however now be shown a local house that has been bagged with lime then overpainted once the lime has dried using silicate paints.

The house already has one rear stone elevation rough pointed with cement about 25 years ago so I'm now leaning towards bagging both elevations and painting them both to get a bit of uniformity of finish and colour.

Do you have any thoughts on rendering with 3.5 or any experience of bagging and the pro's/cons of both methods and their effectiveness.

Thanks
