Talked about this for a few weeks, even yesterday what started off with five plasterer friends then turned out to be about 10 I know near me can’t get any still, some might think it will get better soon because they have had a few bags but a multi finish plaster search for sale on Fb market place will show how bad things are the page is endless, all parts of the country too, so wrote a petition out that might help and might not , share it where ever you want, think it’s around the 100,000 signatures mark that things start to maybe get talked about actions being taken

I think a few emails to your MP would have more chance of affecting things than that. Not that I think anything would be done anyway.

i can understand your anger frustration vincey, but not a hope of getting that,,and you know how optimistic and positive i am ,stocks will soon be back to normal, fuss will die down,

Just cant see it ending whilst every plasterer in the country cant walk in store/merchants and collect without feeling tgey need to emoty the store/merchants.
Till the little cunty Diy stores are full it won’t stop! Xmas is a bit strong surely.

BG alone cant sort this the only way i see a way out us if thst make good becomes half decent and can add volume!

Pete these people buying gear to resell immediately become a business legally, and should therefore be charging Vat on the goods. Maybe it could be worth contacting HMRC to check, and explaining why you're asking?

I had my van broken into last night ..............They left all my tools ,cordless drills and brand new Dewalt mixer and just took the two bags of multi i had .......................... :D

It’s what I’ve been saying all along mate till it’s in abundance in the Diy sheds the profiteering Punjabi’s won’t stop.

The problem is that wanting to restrict the sale to trade now is wanting to have your cake and eat it. If trades had stuck with trade only suppliers over the last 15 years or so then firstly there would be more of them left trading, and secondly public wouldn't have access to the materials.

Unfortunately all the scratting tossers decided that they'd save tuppence ha'penny on a bag of plaster or a stick of timber and started using the stack 'em high sell 'em cheap DIY sheds. So loads of merchants closed or got bought out by big outfits with no personal relationship to customers, and everyone (trade, DIY, chancers, profiteers) are trying to use the same source. Exactly the same issue with people crying about big supermarkets and how they've ruined the high street.

It may sound harsh, but tough sh1t. You made you bed now you can lay in it.

Myself only used them as there was ideal with closing late etc, only used wickes about 6 times in my life 4 plaster

Sounded like you was having a pop at me personally!

I'm not having a pop at anyone personally, I doubt there's many who haven't bought gear from a shed at one point or another. Merely pointing out that trade only suppliers existed, trades went elsewhere to buy materials to save a couple of quid from money the customer was paying anyway. Trade only suppliers couldn't make a living anymore and the DIY sheds took over the market. It's too late to start complaining about DIY, trade, and chancers all having access to the same materials now, that ship sailed years ago and the trade hoisted its sails.

What a load of bollox!

Which bit is wrong?

The fact that we somehow are wrong for buying from such as wickes prior to pandemic.

1 cheaper
2 open before & after work
3 open at weekends
4 stock is better looked after
5 the price is upfrobt unlike snake merchants

This problem us 10000000% BG doing not merchants, sheds or anyone elses!

I only buy all my materials from the merchants anyway, personally I hate the Diy sheds and only go in if I’m really really desperate. I get better prices from the merchants than they can do also. I totally understand why some blokes go to them because I’ve seen many get their pants pulled down at the counters of merchants. So the merchants only have themselves to blame for loss of trade because of dodgy variations in prices to different people!

Not wrong for buying from them, wrong to complain that they won't change their business to account for one trade's supply issues now. That trade (along with others) put the DIY sheds in the prominent position they have now. BG supply to their biggest customers, the DIY sheds are one of those, and it's the trade/s along with public who've put them in that position.

BG are a part of the problem for sure, but like any company or business they can only supply where there is demand. Outside of the huge sites the biggest demand by far in recent years has been the sheds. DO you seriously think that BG (or anyone else) is going to p1ss off one of their biggest customers because people further down the chain are unhappy?

Merchants now yes absolutely, but if you think back 10 or 15 years the only edge that the sheds had were opening hours and a small margin on price. That's when the issue started, and it was the same with the supermarkets. People could shop at weekends and save a bit of money, the greengrocers, butchers, shoe shops etc couldn't compete and closed. Now people aren't happy because the high streets are mostly charity shops and fast food outlets.

I buy materials from one merchant mostly because I can't be 4rsed ringing/chasing around. I could almost certainly get the stuff a bit cheaper but as I pass on the cost anyway it's more hassle than it's worth to me.

I see your point but imagine have no DIY stores stocking plaster over the years,ud have merchants selling bags at £15 a bag now.its been badly managed from DIY stockists

True, but 'we' as domestic trades across the board have created the situation, or at least not done anything to prevent it. When everything's going fine it's slightly cheaper and more convenient, when things get sticky like they have now the trades are at their (BOY sheds and manufacturers) mercy. Basically paying the price now for the savings in time and money made previously.

Majority of plaster sales from the sheds are to the trade, so I’m just saying that in this time of sparse supply they could do something to honour and repay them back by limiting it to trade only just till it’s all sorted.

The trouble is every man and his dog has a trade card for these sheds.
Easy to apply for and not really checked
