Make Good

I’m interested to know how Ryan’s big push with Make Good finish has gone. He had loads of people buying it and he had good feedback :ROFLMAO: sand to the Arabs, ice to Eskimo’s.
Are his shelves still full or has he told the Turks they can keep their talcum powder shite and shove it in their shish kebabs!

Think make good might be going bad?

Thanks for your genuine interest Rossi. The Sand to the Arabs analogy is quite the compliment - thank you.

Regarding MG finish. It has sold unbelievably well for us with over 10,000 bags sold since we launched it with them - you'll be interested to hear we are currently out of stock. There have been mixed reviews as to be expected with new products some amazing, some awful.

The reason why we are out of stock is due to MG listening to the Feedback given from spreads up and down the country and adjusting their formula. We are therefore waiting for the new updated batch of materials to arrive after sign off from the guys who gave the feedback.

MG contacted majority of the guys who used the material for feedback and have listened to exactly what they had to say and have responded professionally and acted in way which I believe means they actually care about their products and care about the industry

Please let me know if you require any further information

The accounts aren't that overdue, Co House tends to put something like this on to speed them up, happened to me once -lost the company and they seized £7k from the bank account. Entirely my own fault, books went in a month later but no money back.
Year one accounts are usually in red anyway, startup costs and deals etc.

They needed the right sort of people doing the initial testing Ryan, not arse licking yes men.
All of the faults were quite predictable if you've ever used the Knauf finish.

Outwith the setting issue it had,I certainly would say it did not have a high quality finish they punted.

I used a bag today as hate wasting material and I have 12 bags of it ( I have a good supply of bg finish as my local branch are looking after me) and it was only a small area in a letted property so added some half time , Jesus it went in quick 1 hour from mixing to finish last time I used it I was looking at 3-4 hour set it was horrible with half time it actually sets , end job looks really nice White is nice , still crap to put on but end result is good I give it 80% as opposed to 100% with bg but I’m thinking my 80% is 80% better then the majority on bg

adjusting their formula?

MG Unifinish here we come then

The first batch was complete sh**e so how the f**k can they tinker about with it and have it extensively tested in a matter of weeks and back on the shelves that fast. Surely product testing should take months to complete not only for applying it on different surfaces but also for different paints to be applied and see how they perform.

The first lot clearly wasn't tested properly and by the right people.
The second lot, as you say, not tested at all.
BG must be having zoom laugh meetings.

I don't know who tested this but first batch was shocking. I tried it a 2nd time on different surface, again shocking. Even if they nail the set and uniform drying its finish is poor in my opinion. Is there anyone on this forum that finds this gear acceptable and a superior quality to bg.

I honestly believe that this stuff is the Knauf finish. We had to use it on a big eco house and it was a nightmare trying to get an acceptable finish on it. We even got the Knauf rep out. He looked at it and said what a brilliant finish we were achieving, I just shook my head and told him that he'd clearly never seen a proper quality finish.
I doubt I'll ever part with my money to take a chance on this gear being any better.

Definitely not Knauf and I know full well it has been tested The second time around - a lot more than the first time and under far different situations

I agree, they made mistakes first time around but the positive thing is they are making changes and not turning away from it. And also, most importantly, held their hands up!

We ourselves have sent pallets worth out for testing and trialling before it comes back to P1 shelves - our new order is placed based on the feedback from guys who have used it

As I said previously surely it takes months to test a new formula and not weeks. What happens if a Plasterer has used the first batch that wasn't tested in someone's house and it falls off a ceiling after a month? Surely the Plasterer isn't responsible and I can't see Make Good paying to have it all replaced in potentially hundreds of houses, just like Unifinish.

It can be year or more, the domestic market is where its proven or not,so many variables to surfaces, conditions etc,,
Look at uni finish, i didnt survive because of failures which i had one and got compensated.you are correct andy i have nearly 40 years in the game and i can certainly say that finish first batch was not quality.

What you using blue or red.

Red but I think there mixing it as some bags defo hang more than others for no apparent reason.

And these all little shitty black bits of grit in it. Also had loads of sets where in same m2 its pissing wet and gone dark next to each other!

Its funking wank...I'm proper hating plastering at moment!

The blues better imo. Doesnt drag like the red .

I agree about the bits I thought it was my wank mixer lol normally warmer weather is better for plastering compared to winter

Me too I just can’t be arsed with it at the moment it’s taking me longer to finish rooms off than before the lockdown.
It’s proper f**k*d me up having all that time off.

Well, this is where I can support Make Good as I know full well that they stand by their customers - me being one of them. Those who have had issues have been repaid and have also been asked to test the new batch.

The new batch wasn't weeks in formulation, it is built of components which have been developed over a long period.
The 1st batch was formulated over the space of 2 years and tested, the signed off product wasn't the one received from the factory as changes had been made beyond their control. All they need to do is change the composition to alter the bubbling, drying times and a few other small areas. De-lamination wasn't an issue they have experienced

It's obvious that Plaster in general is a volatile product, for years people have been moaning about Multi and since they re-opened, all I have been reading is about the product flash setting.

I think it's a very positive thing for the trade that another company are listening to you all, making adaptions and offering an alternative. If BG close down again, do you think the Industry can survive another big hit like they just have? I know of plenty of guys who have had to hang up their trowel and find other work due to it
