It's quite simple mate 160 a day is not a bad price he might have done 2 gauges for 12.30 and gone home he should not have spoke to you or your missus like that so just knock f**k out of him barring this get someone else and take it on the chin
Can't knock f**k out of a proper spread, tough as Ord boots :musculoso:

Hello. We have had a plasterer in for some work and it's all gone nasty. He quoted us a day rate if 160 and said the work would take 6 days. He said he only works full days and only asks for the money at the end. Well, he's asked for the money (my gf actually paid when i wasn't there), only worked 3 half days, 1 full day and 2 in between. He was supposed to have finished Monday. I called him Tuesday night to ask him when he was coming back - he had told my gf three weeks, we had other work for him so in his mind he was going to finish it all then I guess - to finish snagging and the bathroom ceiling so we could decorate what he had done. No issues with the quality of the work it's very good. But before I could actually get into the conversation he told me to f**k off and put the phone down. Next night my gf called him and the same - he told her to f**k off because she's a stupid cow, and out the phone down. Today he's threatened is with small claims court saying we owe him 90 quid. Well we argued he hasn't finished the work and it's a bit cheeky given that he only did about 30 hours work , given that he said he does full days and he charged us day rates (which he now disputes). We f**k**g T***s now and it's getting unpleasant. Just after some advice - are we in the right or wrong here for not paying what he claims we owe him? Also, he was a really nice bloke when he was here, courteous and friendly, so we don't know if actually we have wronged him or are right given the way he spoke is before we could even speak to him and he hasn't done full days like said. Somehow, we feel guilty about it?

Maybe he's got mental health issues judging from the extreme moods like that. You won't have known that, people don't generally wear adverse mental health like shiczophrenia on their sleeve.

Try to keep an open mind.

Just concentrate on solving your problem now rather than the emotions, no need to feel guilty, you've not done owt wrong have you, so don't worry about it.

£90 through the small claims court is almost absurd so don't stress about that. If he's serious, you will get a claims notification from the Court and get a chance to put your side of the story forward. But honestly, Id bet my house that wont happen. Its just something tradespeople threaten to get customers to cough up the cash (if they think the customer's trying to weasel out of paying) or simply if they want them to back off. The actual process can be time-consuming, incur further cost and become a hassle, all things tradespeople try to stay very, very far away from, so unless it's £hundreds or £thousands, it just not worth going down that route for most.

How much work you got left?

To be fair if he has charged you £160 he should only be doing half a days work anyway it's well under the going rate. Also the problem here is you have penny pinched on a guy who is under charging anyway...and he has gone nuts. If it were me I would find someone else but you may struggle not many spreads want to take over from others work they see alarm bells...you will need a good excuse...maybe something like 'the plasterer had to self isolate' Good Luck
I agree. Probably worked his arse off for 160 a day, bent over backwards for what the customers needs then they moan when you leave a bit early cause there was only one set left on the last day. can't imagine you would just tell someone to f**k off for nothing if he seemed like a nice bloke befoe
