Plaster situation/goverment support!

With approximately 10,000 merchants to service over a 3 week period that’s over 650 artics each day

But this was the very question I and others were asking right at the beginning.

Production % means absolutely nothing to material availability on the shelf for the end user.

So my question is when will demand be satisfied to such an extent that there will not be ongoing shortages and toilet roll situation?

1 month?
2 month?
3 month?
Longer?

If competitors did exist they would have been in the same position as BG. How could the current situation have been avoided? Even if the production had been maintained, the merchants closed their doors, so nowhere to hold stock, and that’s if it could be done without putting people’s lives at risk.

You make a very good point about merchants being shut.

That said If just the 2 sheds that remained open in wickes & bq had been restockeded throughout this situation woukdnt exist now.

To not be able to buy a single bag currently anywhere in the uk when we have a mandate to be working has shown a complete lack of support for us your customers.

That said you have every right to work to safe practices that I have always said but I do believe you as a company take your market position for granted.

lots of negative views on here, stop watching the ,news stay calm and not panic, in other words be like me positive thinking and thoughts, happy chappy hector, not like you miserable lot
but you have made your first million hector no worries lol

I noticed shortages of multi in my builders merchants (Selco) around a year ago...

The only way to make it fair to all is to ration it.

I’m getting back on the external work...this won’t be sorted until at least September

This is why I said at start if lads are working through there should still claim as it will not bite them in arse when payments stop and then there cant work because of gear shortage.its Ebay's fault for letting them sell it for the price there are,no ebay and no problem, cheeky tests have a radio advert out aswell saying ebay keeping the nation going etc

Which is another problem looming. If no one can do internal work loads will start chasing the external even if they're not really up to it just to earn a crust. Then people will start the race to the bottom undercutting one another.

As a few have said on here, the virus is the least of your worries if you're self employed, and the lockdown is just the beginning of difficulties for most people due to the knock on effects of redundancies, supply issues, restricted working etc.

Buckle up boys and girls.

Absolutely. Already happening

Could the government drop pallets of multi finish out to the staving plasterers similar to the food packages they use to do in Africa
We need Bob Geldof to come and sort us a video out. All looking pissed off and destitute, Scratching round in the bottom of skips for plaster dust, fighting at merchants. Please donate just £2 to help spreads up and down the uk. Text Gypsum to 82228.

According to the brickies on site this week a couple of sites in Coventry have run out of bricks. They can get more, but supply is very slow partly due to stock levels, but also due to the amount needed compared to the number of trucks available to deliver them.

That situation will be similar across all trades, along with the knock on effects from delays with other trades it's going to be horrendous for some time to come.

No doubt that will also apply to other industries from florists to engineering.

And all 4 a flu strain when 90% of population didn't need to isolate in 1st place.its been hammered down every1s throats that it's a killer virus from day dot

Rightly or wrongly I took it that we were isolating not so much to stop us catching the virus as to stop the hospitals being overloaded by those that did and needed treatment. Hospital capacity is a finite resource, so if a large proportion is used up looking after people with a virus then there isn't enough to cope with the 'normal' accidents and illnesses.

Whether that's worked or not I suppose we'll never know as the only way to prove it would be to go back and take the 'carry on as normal' approach.

To me now it's just another thing on the list of stuff I can't do anything about so I'm not going to get stressed about it. All we can do is try and make the best of where we are really.

they would sooner bomb us with ton bags filled with donkey piss lol

I get the feeling that those in power just like to stir things up a bit every once in a while so that they can watch the proles rip each other apart. I suppose since most blood sports are banned it's the only entertainment the poor souls get.
