I will bet my house on our trade being left in a situation where by there is still not sufficient stock of materials to work before the goverment funding finishes end of June.

Theres absolutely no way on this planet this stock situation will be resolved in 4 weeks time as demand and peoples backlog & additional panic buying will continue to outstrip supply due to hysteria.

@BritishGypsum please comment?

Thank the lord for mono stock mate

Wonder when BG were in production on a normal day, at what capacity were they pumping out plaster at?

The problem now is that every plasterer in the county has a backlog of jobs of 12 weeks work and with fresh enquires most will have a minimum of 3 months work and desperate for materials.

It's a perfect storm it will be like toilet rolls for weeks imo.

I hope I'm proven wrong but I just cant see it.

Business leaders are warning the self-employed face a “total income cliff-edge,” with just a few days until a government support scheme is due to expire.
Fears are mounting among struggling freelance workers in part that the UK government’s income grant scheme could be wound down. Around 2.3 million self-employed workers and 8.4 million employees have now received coronavirus crisis funding, new figures on Wednesday showed.

Why will there?? They are often on benefits and as such will be sitting in the garden drinking beer giggling at everyone running around looking for gear...they will have a rest then resume when supplies can be easily found at the local wickes .

Theyllend up jumping in something else.

This material situation isn't going back to normal anytime soon.

It will be next year before that happens

The more I think about this the angrier I get. How can 1 company have a complete strangle hold over a trade.

This is literally going to loose peoples homes and livelihoods if it isnt sorted by mid June at latest.

completely agree, would love there to be a decent competitor, looking forward to trying this Carlite stuff on Monday, little pricey at £11 a bag though

I've done the same I don't trust the material situation to even its self out anytime soon so I've ordered some carlite in to get me started in july looking forward to trying this stuff out

Can somebody, anybody please explain or give me 1 single reason why BG wouldn’t fill every single shelf in all the merchants throughout the country if they could in the next day, week or month.
As I can’t get any skim could I get some free merchandise as compensation???

My Carlite arrived yesterday and my builder started using it today. He has waxed lyrical about it. It takes longer to set, which is perfect in the current hot climate. The finish is unbelievably smooth. He was also able to complete more plastering than he would with multi-finish so he recons what I spent extra on the Carlite I will save on time.

Doesnt matter if you can or cant as we have nowhere else to go.

But seen as your asking answer me this question if you had competitors in a very competitive market like the render suppliers do would you have let this situation arise and risked losing your market?

The answer is absolutely not!

It’s going out but it’s gone within minutes when it hits the merchants. I googled how many builders merchants in the U.K. and it came back with a figure of 10,000. Going to take a bit of time to stock all of them even if the production was 200%.

My local merchants I use have to wait 3 weeks for a delivery after an order has been put through, that doesn’t sound like BG are up to 80% productivity to me. The plaster is definitely not being distributed evenly and fairly, This is happening up and down the country!

If competitors did exist they would have been in the same position as BG. How could the current situation have been avoided? Even if the production had been maintained, the merchants closed their doors, so nowhere to hold stock, and that’s if it could be done without putting people’s lives at risk.

With approximately 10,000 merchants to service over a 3 week period that’s over 650 artics each day
