Government grant

Didn’t ask them for it. They offered
I’m supposed to let my customers that I’ve worked for for years down, so they can get someone else, leaving me to find new clients later. What a great idea!

This is why we all get taxed so much.. lol f**k sake.

Well I’m saving hard to buy the property I currently rent. My comment the other day about getting a new van was just to wind you up. Don’t need a new van. I’m working safely on my own. Not hurting anyone. Gonna have to agree to disagree.
Fair enough, if you're working purely on isolated extensions or the like then not really much risk. If you're working in occupied homes then it's really not bright.
We're all saving for something

be very carful lads this country don't give anything for nothing let your accountant advise u or u could be paying back for years to come
I’d have thought they’d pay out, then refer back to it to your self assesment in some way next year.
I agree this is hmrc we’re talking about, not a tin pot outfit, you think there just going to hand out £1000s just because your self employed.

Fire the van up @ChrispyUK

self employed don't count in this country

The guidance I read the other week was that self employed could claim wether you work or not
The clause I read the other day stated ...

If you have lost trading profits due to covid19

So if you have worked through it you haven't lost profits ??

Below is information from .gov website........

You can claim if you’re a self-employed individual or a member of a partnership and you:

  • have submitted your Self Assessment tax return for the tax year 2018 to 2019
  • traded in the tax year 2019 to 2020
  • are trading when you apply, or would be except for coronavirus
  • intend to continue to trade in the tax year 2020 to 2021
  • have lost trading profits due to coronavirus
You will need to confirm to HMRC that your business has been adversely affected by coronavirus. HMRC will as usual use a risk based approach to compliance.
“Risk based approach to compliance”
That tells you all you need to know.

Your right, the government in an ideal world wants everyone to be paye they can then keep tabs on every penny you earn, which makes it laughable that fellas think there just going to get a big cheque in June if they’ve been working aswell, with no Clauses.
The same government means testing genuinely disabled people for disability allowance.

All my work is new build. Don’t like working in people’s houses. Got no time for Joe Public.

Yes, you get taxed on it next year.

But why ??? Don’t get it ??

Loads of reasons.

On a human level theres 10000s households across the country where they dont have the luxury of having savings or a 2nd income coming in to cover bills so need to get through each week until june.

Also probably easier and cheaper to blanket pay out and reclaim and hope to help cover down time & stimulate regrowth.

I could go on but cant be arsed!

I know for sure 20 years ago with babies and just me working and us starting out we wouldnt have survived.

That's why joking aside I keep saying scab but its tongue in cheek @JessThePlasterer

I would have carried on working or committed crime to make money without hesitation.

prick do u get some one else to fuel in your van when u fill up or just put your mucky paws on the pump to spread the bug if u have it

When this started shaping up in February I put 120 litres of diesel into jerry cans and stuck them in the unit. Since the lockdown I haven't been near a petrol sation, but I've only used 1 can as I'm not working. Just a few trips to my sister's place.

If the stations can't get fuel because of drivers off I'm good, but the main thing is I don't need to stop for fuel. (y)

That’s why you can claim universal credit and take a break from all ya bills, all loans and credit cards are doing holidays to
. Not having people will get both and if they do they will get stung for a repayment the following year

Yes, you get taxed on it next year.
First off you’ll have prove that youve been effected, second it would be based on your tax return from the same period last year, so if your only putting small amounts through, your only going to get small amounts, thirdly as you say, you’ll be taxed on what ever you get at source.

I dont know mate were fortunate to not need or be eligible so I dont know how it works.

But all I'm saying is I would have done whatever i needed to do for my family 1st and f**k everyone else.

Age and money mellows you but when your young hungry & desperate you do whatever's needed.

how did you get 10k with a 100 a month garage and no business rates number?
It’s not a garage it’s an old barn that’s been split into 5 little units.....I’m not talking anything fancy it’s a got a padlock on the door and it’s divided by a couple of stud walls. I have a business rates bill that states is £0 as it’s under small business rates relief scheme.

See, it pays to be legit. The one's suffering most now are those that have been flying under the radar and not declaring stuff.
