I think government are saying all the right things but come to claim and it’ll be a different story. Apparently it takes 5 weeks before the first payment can come through too.
If there was ever a time to remind everyone to live within their means then this is it. Those that have been trying to show off more than they earn will be hit first. Credit cards to the max, loans, overdraft, crazy mortgages. It’s going to hurt some.

If your self employed (as most are on here) you need to factor any down period in to your planning, ie put a bit away for lean times, as somewhere down the line theyll be a period where you can’t work.

Can we claim benefits. Because of virus. They are talking about helping people.
You'll need to wind up your business and submit final accounts. So you can't just claim and then when business picks up carry on again. They should have introduced some kind of interim claim where you could hibernate your business until crisis was over. Really shafted sole traders. Make you jump through hoops for five weeks, pay your accountant etc for 90 quid. Never signed on and never will. But some will have to. And whythefuck give everyone on universal credit an extra 20 a week? Tossers

Yup... I am going to sound like a c**t but I have been planning for this since the last recession. I have enough saved and passive income to see me through 12 months... probably longer as I am always hustling....

When will people learn that when money is flying in they need to not buy cars and holidays but save it up and invest for s**t like this...

I have savings to get me through 6/12 months but that's beside the point. Its took me 47 years to build that and the employed get supported. Dont get me started on benefits types ...they will be largely unaffected

Its a time of national emergency. Ive paid in and expect to get what the employed would get. If I was employed on 25 grand Id get 20 grand a year sitting at home. Because im self employed if I was earning 25 grand Id be sitting at home with less than 5 grand a year. Its unfair. Its about parity. But, yeah, I agree with the Ayn Rand thing.

Im afraid it looks like this is too big for most of us,majority of self employed will not come back from this one.even if you have savings the demand for domestics will be flat for years, its no use glossing over this.the recesion after this one will be massive.the only hope i see is if they can get a test out and you can prove you have had it you can say to customers you are clear.if they had done what trump has done give everyone a $1000 a month worry about economy later self employed might ride this out. But 4/5 million self employed are now looking down the barrel of a gun this morning.statuary sick pay.if you have a partner and they are self employed too omg.
Its so tragic. God i hope im wrong.

My mate found out last night his company is folding next Friday, he works at a window making company. His mrs found out in the same day that the restaurant she manages is closing pronto. Both jobless in the same 24hrs. Mental!

Was that before he announced the 80 per cent grant? Maybe they'll just mothball it and keep them on:(

Small to medium business will be finished before the Grant's or loans kick in. Bet it takes months to get money to people accounts

They should stop hs2. Waste of money in times like these. Hard times for these times. We'll be lucky to get 40 quid a wall when this is over.

Nonsense,Why would you stop massive inferstructure projects... it’s the opposite isn’t crack on, it will employ 100s of thousands of construction workers, directly employed that’s 100s of thousands of national insurance and income tax every week plus thousands in the supply chain etc.

People still need somewhere to live etc, still going to need massive amounts of new builds and the like, mortgages are cheap. it’s not like recession of the 90s when interest rates were 12% or 2008 went banks went bust, or maybe I’m a glass half full sort of fella and not doom mongering. If plastering doesn’t pay the bills, do something else. In 2009 I had to go van driving for a living when I lost plastering contracts on new builds.

Not get much driving a van.

I saw one cheeky c**t offering a tenner for hgv 1 a couple of days ago.

Vans is minimum wage.

We.ll be ok if wife keeps here job . And at moment she is working from home so fingers crossed. Worse case she will get redundancy . As it stands we could prob last 5 to 7 months .
If you go to sign on and your wifes still working you will get told she can support you or if you have saving get told to use that.

The money is for people who can't work because the govt has told them to shut.
Everybody else is in the same boat, enjoy the rest.

You are.

Whatever they bring in you won't get a penny until you are rock bottom...no savings, no house, nothing...sorry to be negative but can't see it any other way.

I've still had calls but they are from the type that came out of the woodwork in the last recession...

Mate this is not a time to stop spending...think about it...it's time to spend spend spend and to come out of this stronger than other countries...to come out of this stronger than Europe...this is an opportunity for the UK to thrive...for us to be ahead to recover first.

The only issue we have at the moment is a brainwashed unproductive nation addicted to their phones that panic at the first hurdle...the nation needs to grow some balls and quick.
