How to apply k-rend over an uneven surface

Hi everyone

I’m turning to the forum for some guidance. One of the lads asked the question early December - the topic above. Still arguing over the right way to go about it now!!

It’s an artificial stone from the 1980s which has a random projection ranging from 10mm to 60mm

Old school lads - build it up with cement rend, get it flat - then apply the k-rend. I’m very much old school - getting it flat will be the main task.

New kids on the block - just board it and then k-rend?? Is that possible?? are they talking shite??

Please enlighten an old schooler

cheers

Shocking way to speak to new members on here, getting absolutely pissed off with this place nowadays.
The one time posts like that come on and ask questions about a product they haven't got a clue how to use so shouldn't be using it, and destroying someone's house then their customers on here showing what an awful job someone has done,
It takes years to get a good depth of knowledge and application skills with modern render, there's a spec to every application if you don't know the spec you shouldn't be using it,
You're both talking shite is just an easy way to put it mate

100% pal.

Members could still give a reason for disagreeing with a new post or not reply at all.

It just pisses people off sometimes when you get chancers delving into your profession hence the sarcastic remarks,
I understand that but he has said he’s old school and he’s just came on looking for a bit of advice, if he said he’d just finished a 7 day course and is working on someone’s house then that would be different.

I get that but a skilled tradesman should be confident enough to rise above it.
there are plenty on here to banter with or abuse without attacking every new post on here.

Most on this forum are ex coursers.

No not to me, it would take 7 days just to learn how to bead up efficiently, he's on about applying k rend and he don't know what k rend is, you can always tell when they say k rend!!
It's like saying will a bag of British gypsum be ok too float that wall out or skim that wall

So how will someone that’s used S and c all there lives be able to make the change over to the new renders? Genuine question I’m not trying to get into a slagging match.

Training and applicator courses for as many manufacturers as you can, machine course
Then get in with a gang until you're confident there is a big knowledgebase mate

Not many people want to train up the competition though mate so if you’ve had your business for years then the only way is to ask questions, either to the render makers themselves or on platforms like this. The short courses the render companies do would probably leave you with more questions than answers

Agree, I've had a good few lads with me who have no interest, you get plasterers coming out on site being curious asking questions but not many of them will give up what they're doing to come and be my b**** for a while,

Pft do machine courses, plasterers1stopshop do machine courses, all the manufacturers do approved applicator courses, Weber do training courses, but the best of all is what you've done on with a gang

Haven’t done a machine course will be definitely doing one of them when I get one

In all fairness we’ve only got his word that he’s “old school” and chances are he would know of other spreads who may have done what he’s asking on here about

It does my swede in mate, getting the calls of “plasterers” who have done a bit “this new render thing” and want to jump in and learn properly next thing ya know there cutting the b*ll***s out of prices to get graft and ballsing it up for everyone else I’ve had it a few times

Because a fair few have stated the fact, and the general ignorance of the trade as a whole.:sisi:
A fair few?? Gimme ten proper spreads on here who have said there a courser? And don’t even include yourself in the list your just a hole driller

They would be better volunteering themselves up as coursers or apprentership / C and G.qualified.
We could have a two tier forum.

Definitely mate
Do you bother with wolves it always used to be hard going round there I only ever used to seem to get any work in West wolves, have ecotex still got the Monopoly with render

Yeh I do wolves had some decent jobs from round town, there’s areas that I don’t even bother pricing, Whitmore reans, blakenhall dudley rd you get the idea lol. I don’t get on with the ecotex nobs cus were in close proximity to each other we end up more times than not pricing the same job and when I chase up my quote I’ve been told numerous times that ecotex have slagged me off trying to get the job, what I do like is when I get the job and I got my advertising up and the old man drives past and sees he ain’t got the job. They also bang on about cheap rates being the death of the industry and one customer showed me there quote after we started and they were nearly £2k cheaper than me. I don’t even go in there shitty little shop anymore either.
Sorry for the rant but they wind me up lol
