Multifinish problems

Hi all I've been finding multifinish is becoming greasy again,on Friday I had a hall stairs landing to reskim and it happend on everywall I skimmed once I flattened in the second coat I left it to go tacky and pull in ready for the first trowel up,once ready I applied a little water to the ceiling line and internal as soon as started the trowel up the plaster started to drag so I applied a little more water which got rid of the drag marks but seemed to take a layer of horrible greasy fat off the surface which made the wall look s**t I tried altering my timings on the other walls but nothing worked luckily I managed to get a decent finish with the plastic trowel but it had me chasing my tail all day has this ever happened to anyone before thinking of going back to board finish the walls that were skimmed were all different suctions and some had paint on some were just bare porous walls so I don't know if it was the plaster or my prep of the walls

Would of been the plaster. Still get the odd batch that behaves differently and drags like f**k. Fair play you managed to salvage it. Not a fun day at the office when it happens

Had bad gear a few times, actually had it confirmed by British gypsum after testing too.

Same everytime. Goes on ok. Lays in ok. 5 mins later it’s unworkable. Same every time.

Took a video. Had a whole room on at the time too. Was piss wet but set at same time? Lol

What the f**k were you listening to on the radio?
We had some of the Knauf MF like that a few years ago.

That's crazy them walls looked bang on like they was ready for a cross trowel csnt believe was still that wet

Had multi other day. Beautiful stuff.

S.T.O.P.F.U.C.K.I.N.G.R.U.S.H.I.N.G
I had no chance of rushing mate my labourer let me down that day the little b*****d felt like I was trapeze artist on that scaffold plank

Multi has been ok for me the usual re-skims. Gets colder up here so it hangs a bit don't hit to early at every stage.

Let it go dry.

I do. But I’ve also skimmed wet Pva n i mean wet not tacky just out of frustration of waiting and still not had problems.

you still don’t believe there’s bad gear lol. I’ve had it happen on plasterboard. Also had it f**k**g tested twice n twice come back faulty. It happens

I believe it down to surface and room temperature and thickness its put on

Would have gone weaker with first but no complaints . When putting first wet coat on its important to pay attend to drying times as more pourus areas may need extra wet coat
, personally never use water , introduces a puddle of wet skim and fines that's then spread inconsistently , giving patches of varying drying times
Hallways can be tricky due to updraughts
At the end of the day overskimming is difficult to get perfect even suction so don't beat yourself up , many don't take the chances and grit day before , never tried it myself lol

What planet are you on. How would it come back as faulty from testing then?
Really does piss me off and makes me laugh that people think it's user error from plasterers who have been doing this for years. Yes I've been skimming 10 years but suddenly can't put multi on to plasterboard, but hey presto it's absolutely spot on the day after

So basically Paul your saying John is at best a labouradoodle.

It's the worst batch I've ever had this is like the second time in about 5 years but last Friday was the worst and typical for it to happen to me on a halls stairs landing with no labourer and a customer who makes nice cups of tea but doesn't make enough

Wallpaper paste can wreak multi, it's got to be sealed, PVA on the day could be hit and miss. Not see bad on high suction backgrounds
Is that why some spreads blue grit the walls in case of wallpaper paste or do people still sugar soap them

Where do you get it from , I only buy from local Wickes , well stored and very high turnover , never a problem

Soap. Seen and heard of grit failing. Plus too long drying time.

@Paul F that’s what I’m trying to explain to job. There’s a list of things that can cause problems but when the gear it bad it’s a different ballgame.

Bone head pfff

rang me up and told me the report came back as faulty. they test it
In a lab and also on wall. “Unworkable after 40 mins” if memory serves. I
Managed to finish it but was a ballache. You’d have stood no chance
