Retirement

As the long standing members will know I'm coming up to 38...2 years off retirement age. Just wondering if anyone is still plastering over 40 and how it feels...because ever since 36 I get funny aches and pains everyday, some the same some new...and I think I'm getting slower and more expensive.

Has anyone managed to (or plan to) do anything else when they hit 40?

I am a little off 40 myself but all being well I should be done in the next 10 years.

Lots of plasterers think that they will go and be teachers and what not but reality is that would be a massive pay cut and there are not a great deal of colleges about

44 and getting some right grief with neck and back . Going for physio next week . Trying to slow down but charge more . Would love to do summet else but couldn't make as much and work hours I want

I had to pack up Plastering at 34 because of rsi in both wrists. But after a few years rest I came back Rendering and at 62 still quite fit but took temporary retirement to be a full time carer. I will be back but part time.

My wrists are still too weak to do skimming. Never took it back up and I don’t miss it.

Sorry if I offend anyone but I think worse thing can do is stop at 40 , keep going and you be ok prime time is upon you , 65 no problem all being well
I.m trying to change how I work. . Try to get closer to ceilings so not looking.up as much. Bit not to close. Start training again to build muscle hope that helps

i am a little over 40 now, i have never had any aches or pains and i find plastering and screeding easy money.
i have seen hundreds of plasterers fall by the way side in my time.
My bro in law has fired it on since being a kid . Think he.s 47 ish now . Gets no pain.

The b*****d

Its all gentics mate some are lucky some arent!
I 100 percent agree with that. Think as well if you have a bad strain or injury it never fully heals after a certain age. I.m back training gonna get physio . If this neck ache dont clear up I.m gonna have to hang trowel up i think

Most plasters will have fook all in bank no investments by 40 so your fooked
So all is left to do is to pay your mortgage off by 50 to 60 yrs old that will be your only asset
& you Wil feel like you can retire as you do not have a mortgage
Basically been a slave to the system all your working life !

Your welcome

Holidays do us good but they also set us back I think

i thought that i was finished at 42 i had a heart attack , i had done some damage to my heart, i needed to take 10 weeks off, till the heart had started to repair its self.
even posting a letter, about 100 yards walk was a big job for me. if i took it slow i could make it with out sitting down.
i returned to work , knocking off at 1 o'clock unto my strength built up.
i had another small heart attack at 58 this time i got a 4x bypass op. i felt great, returned to work after the 10 week lay off. that was 13 years ago and i still feel great.
