Small strips of plasterboard in between bonding
Hi, Hope this makes sense. Just had some plastering done on a 1930’s ish terrace. It seems where there is really big gaps near the floorboards eg behind where the skirting board will go, that bonding has been used then small strips of plasterboard and then more bonding to build it out. I’ve now cut away a bit of this and the plasterboard is damp yet the the brick behind is bone dry. Surely this is not right?

How long ago was it done?

People build things out with all sorts of shite.

Customer walked in on me a few weeks ago and caught me building out a window head with about 8 bits of plasterboard and a can of expanding foam :)

If a customer of mine had queries about my work I’d like to think they’d ask me rather than hack into my work. Have you raised your concerns with them?

It might feel damp because it’s still drying out.

Was done on the 17/18th August.

Not really hacking into it, the plastering was taken right down to the floorboards with no gap in between. In a ground floor room. Is that right? We were concerned it may be rising damp so wanted to see if the bricks seemed wet, which they don’t. Neither are the joists or floorboards, floorboards were a tiny bit where the damp plaster was touching but has no dried out after making an inch gap in between. Was trying to ask for advice and knowledge really before getting back to the plasterer.

Edit. ‘but edge of floorboards has now dried out’

Why have you written it like a news headline? Are you Moria Stewart?

Went to Bodrum 25 years ago with mates - I won best dancer in Bodrum 1994. By day we crashed the beach in Olu Deniz - I remember there was screaming each day when I was trying to kip on my sun-bed, I went up to get a pizza at lunchtime one day and the sweaty greasy chef told me it was ‘just the young boys getting circumcised’...normal holiday then!
