Why are quotes all over the shop?

Hi Mo,

Thank you for the plan and photos attached.

The estimated cost to carry out the works to a high standard exactly how you want them, finish ready for painting no filling or sanding, professional and reliable service, property left spotless as found.

Estimated cost labour and access £4400 (materials can be supplied at trade price if required, we only charge for the time to collect (£30 per hour).

I hop you are happy with the estimate and proceed to have the works carried out, if you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask.

I hope you are happy with the estimate.

Hi FreeD

Thanks for taking the time to work that up. Unfortunately it too dear for this project, but I'll keep you in mind when I next refurbish my yacht.

Your second point about wages is fair, you take the extra risk of being self employed hence you should get rewarded that. But could a self employed plasterer keep themselves constantly employed if they accepted £170 per day as opposed to £220 per day where they can only get work for a fraction of the time?

Each to their own I suspect.

There is no set day rate.. Its what a job is worth.. I just finished work today, easy days work.. £230 labour, yesterday, finished at 4pm.. £320 labour.. They are fair prices for repeat customers, its easy to keep busy earning decent money, you just have to know how to price and who to work for.

On the subject of yachts, I stumbled across YouTube vids of walk throughs on super yachts the other week.. Started binge watching them, £3mil, £6mil,£65mil,£150mil.. Absolutely mental

Hi Jon

Thank you, however, I have another Plasterer lined up, I just need to check out a recent job he's done and then he gets the job. He has asked for £950 in labour, says it will take him & a labourer 5 days to do it and can start in 10 days. He's very local so that a plus.

If I'm not happy with his last job, I will PM you?
Is that plus vat or inc?

Is this mo Farrah? Boring thread but while your on here what was this all about?

Wow, you're doing well. Well done.

I suppose there is minimum you would work for, the upper limit is whatever the customer is willing to pay?

Which part of the country do you work in?

He'll get a carpenter to craft it out of a sheet of MDF. He's not hoping for the earth just for it to be perfectly flat and play like the one in the crucible, after all it's only abit of woodwork. Should only be a mornings work and with trade discount on the MDF he'll be surprised if it's more than £100 all in.

However shocking this blokes approach to finding tradesman is or his attitude towards them I really can't condone calling him a pac
£950 for 2 men for 5 days :ROFLMAO: £152 after tax. Then take out fule van tax van insurance work insurance lunch buying tools inc lol 100% cowboys u have coming they have none of the above

Zakkerly. I put myself and a labourer out at £280 day and that's in Donegal where wages really aren't up to much

I love to come on here to see how the other half live. Mos how much do u make a week.

I'm employed.

I make £2100 clear a month after tax, student loan repayments, compulsory pension deductions.

I then have to pay for my car and associated expenses so I can get to and from work- sadly it's not tax deductible since I work at a single place of work.

Oh I'm an Optician (opthalmic), seems fair to disclose seeing as I know what you all do.

If I was self employed I could earn £250 per day everyday, but I really can't be arsed with the hassle.. Some self employed people do charge more £350/day in parts of the country where they can't get opticians as easily or during periods of high demand (summer).

Your all the F*****g same academics!!!!!

Think your to clever and its beneath you to pay manual workers there worth because we havent been to university etc etc etc!!!!

Nope that's not true. The market dictates the rate. Supply & demand, not academics- lol. I'm not an academic anyway, optometry is vocation. Much more like a trade in a way.

Overheads... How much does that work out annually?

£200 a week for me, mostly the vehicle but then there is the accountant, plant and other equipment, health and safety equipment and clothing, insurances like public liability and employers liability. This is per average working week so to cover the weeks when you are on holiday, sick days, bank holidays, snowed and rained off (Rendering jobs mostly). When you are on your annual holidays the vehicle is still depreciating, insurance and road tax, advertising, insurances and accountant still needs paying. So £40 a day in overheads. Most tradesmen don’t know the true breakdown of their own overheads and fail to tally the value of their overheads on the profit and loss sheet even though it is clearly wrote down.

Labour is the same as above, a daily working wage plus extra to cover for the non working days just like you have to with a employee, they get paid holiday pay and sick pay plus training days. Also an allowance to cover for your pension contributions just like employees have given them by law.

The market has dictated.. You keep going for the cheapest prices though?

Supply and demand does affect wages.. (immigration).

Good on you for being honest, you seem like a fairly decent guy, you need to understand that you have to pay good money for good work though.. and that means you losing money in the process, your property value doesn't increase at the same rate you spend money on it.. Also don't forget you will actively decrease the value of it if you get bad quality work done.

No actually my grandad was the maharaja of Amritsar so I have a humongous trust fund.

But thank you for your symoathy
U should invest it. U should do a plastering course with it. U should have enough left for a bag of chips on the way home after it.

This time next year
