Skimmed this wall but a layer of paint that was used over contract emulsion has failed. Im taking the lot off and starting again. Gutted as big wall but taking it on the chin. Just no way to ever predict this. Seemed fine all the way through prep.

I'm a day behind now. It's happens but this one caught me a treat. Oh well... It's the only new wall because of loft conversion as all the rest are way older and solid. It's the contract emulsion that's caused this pushing off the better emulsion that was coated on top. Can't say I've ever had this happen before

Out of interest did you let pva dry

Need to pva to set paint off give it half hour then scrape the mushy paint off. Pva again n skim. Scratch wall too

I did Pva and a few little bubbles but nothing much and I tried to scrape but solid. In hind sight a steamer would of fetched it off I think but when is that an option? Think it hung wet overnight and that done the wall. Been caught a handful of times in 30+ years but this one got me a treat. The wall is split old and new but the contract emulsion failed... See old and new.. Was a good coat of magnolia emulsion over the weekend lot before this and looked good. Just got my sander so will get at it and prime

Scrape it?!?
I had once staircase wall falling down as it was curtain. Manager didn’t believe me when I said pva won’t do it. Fell off with the paint. You should have seen his face!

Looks like emulsion to me. A tell tale sign it’s going to be problematic is when half of it’s already came off......

I pva n if it goes funny scrape it off. Also scratch the wall for key n pva skim .

Is unfortunate tho

Soft sheen emulsion... Think over night the damp plaster took it off.. Plaster stuck to emulsion but it it come away from contract emulsion under

It's the combination of heat and moisture that the skim introduces to the plaster causing the failure

The good quality emulsion should have been mist coated onto the contract emulsion for first coat, thats the cause i believe, not a lot of people know that, my name is michael tapit.
