What types of houses to use lime is it just solid built walls or any house that has been built using lime with a caverty black ash etc any help will be appreciated

If your bricks were laid using lime then you should repoint if your going that way with lime otherwise when the water gets behind it will either force the sand and cement pointing out or blow the face of your brick work. You can render using both. Inside is pretty much whatever you like unless you have damp which you will have to cure before replastering but don’t be taken in by the damp proof merchants it’s not usually a doc that’s needed just repairs around windows, doors, checking anything that is on the outside wall and leaky down pipes or gutters

The purist would say no!!! But I have done it all my life, so yea should be fine
Stone houses becouse. in the old days when ther were building them you notice ther something similar to a cavity in the middle and that the reason water goes in and dries out lime does not hold moisture like cement. When it rains very heavy and the stone wall can't cope whith the amount of water it goes through the cavity and in to the frensh drains round the house. So I don't think lime mortar works as well on a 9inbrickwall becouse you haven't got the cavity to cope whith heavy rain

It’s not rendered in lime black ash is it? Just when they laid the bricks? If you have cavity walls you might want to make sure your wall ties are still in one piece, the black ash contained small amounts of sulphur so when wet it created a very mild sulphuric acid which over time eats the wall ties galvanised or not. I don’t know about Weber I am sure @vfr12 could help

No not black ash on outside I've never seen it outside it would have been inside but that's all been rendered in cement long time ago

I don’t know if they do, I have never seen it, apparently it’s common in Wales and I live in Kent. Is it just the brick beds that are black ash? If so just render in what you want though I don’t know if it will bleed through, check the technical spec for whatever you decide on

They used it for brick laying and all internal rendering

over lath I've never seen it outside its not the best material but has lasted over 120years and its lime most houses that have not been repointed over the years or render the black mortar falls out or weathers out I've seen some brick on brick no mortar I'm surprised they still stand
