Plaster over artex

Hi, I have artex ceilings throughout, the fan type about 1-2mm thickness for the ridges. Can I just use multifinish plaster to cover this up and create a flat ceiling? Thanks

Yes , tbf there’s quite a skill though to do this , just worth bearing in mind if never plastered before mate

How old is your house? If it’s 80s/90s then yeah you could skim over it adding a couple handfuls of bonding in the first coat. If it’s an older property then overboard and skim

Because if the property is old lath then chances are they’re already coming away from the joists in places and by skimming over you’re just adding more weight. Cracks will probably appear because not all will be visible to the eye to tape. So all round it’s a better, safer job for longevity

Fair point me lady, could be wrong but find that swirl on post lath properies usually
