Domestic Plasterer Crosby North Liverpool

Spread Head

New Member
Hello, I am looking for a plasterer for a domestic job in Crosby, Liverpool.

The job:

1st floor Bedroom approximately 4 x 4m

Ceiling height 2.87m

Late Victorian/Edwardian house.

2 alcoves, chimney breast, bay window (angular not curved).

The walls are in poor condition. Some areas have been replastered, but much of it seems to be the original or very old plaster. Around 30% is blown.

light switch, 1 socket. 1 radiator (I’m happy to remove it), skirting is off. No fussy fiddly bits is what I’m saying.

No furniture in the room, and the current carpet is going, so there is nothing to sheet up or protect.

If it is possible, and not unwise to chop off the blown areas, bond them, and then skim it all, that would be good.

If it is more sensible to hack it all off and start again from the brick, I am open to that, but I would be doing the chopping off myself. I don’t want to pay a skilled trade to do something a monkey like me can do myself!

If it needs to be done from scratch my preference is for float and skim, but I am open to having it boarded and skimmed. My concern about boards is durability, and also cracking along joints with the movement that occurs in older houses.

I don’t want the ceiling doing, just the walls.

I am not looking for a quick patch up job, I would like to resolve the issues with the backing, and get a finish I can decorate on now and for years to come without plaster problems.

Timescale:

ASAP, but I’m not desperate, I will wait for the right person(s)

Incentives:

Cash payment, price for the job not per metre.

Flexible if you want to work late or weekend.

Top notch butty shop just around the corner.

Not fussy about mess, you won’t be tiptoeing around my flower arrangements wearing boot covers and a hairnet.

Much of my house is in similar condition and I’m sorting it out room by room, so there is quite a bit of near-future work here.

If this sounds like something you would like to price for please contact me with your details on this email:

wreckingstuff@hotmail.com

Then I will give you a ring to arrange looking at the job. I’m not comfortable putting a phone number on a public forum, not because of you guys, just because there are bad actors on the interwebz.

Very nice having a butty shop round the corner but that's only any good if you are buying.

That depends, I might think 'wow you're getting enough of my £, you can get your own sandwiches', or I might think 'wow that is very reasonable, it would be my pleasure to pay for sandwiches of your choosing and fetch them for you'.
:)

@Spread Head id like to say that I been a member on here for 5 years and plasterer myself for over 15 years even though @Rossi46 doesnt post many pictures in that time I’ve seen his work and can highly recommend the guy , we aren’t just talking a have a go hero here we are talking a very experienced skilled tradesmen he is with a vast amount of knowledge, I’d even go as far to say I doubt you’d find better than him
Good luck with the project

Thanks for getting in touch Bryn Cragg, @Rossi46 is on the case here. Ya snooze ya lose, as they say.

Also, and I’m not saying this to be a dick but as a genuine well meaning suggestion: If you wanted to pick up jobs through this forum, you should probably contribute by posting advice or discussing materials, tools, methods, and your football gambling addiction so that people can see you are a proper spread. Otherwise you are kind of a shot in the dark, and I dunno about anybody else but that is exactly what I was trying to avoid by looking for a plasterer here.

Actually saying that marked you up as a dick.

Let's hope your house doesn't fall down with you in it and you die very slowly and all alone, in terrible pain with no-one to hear your gaspy little screaming that's crushed to a whimper by several tons of rubble.

Let's hope that doesn't happen to you.

C’mon Steve don’t be a dick

That was some powerful imagery though @Stevieo. I’m worried about my house falling down now, it looks like late 80’s Beiruit in here already, I keep expecting to find Terry Waite chained to the radiator.

Liverpool, innit? Crosby's not what it was.

I can be quite descriptive when I want. Would you like me to outline some other terrible sticky ends that I hope you don't meet?

You snooze you lose... FFS, what do you think this is, some shitty 80's Tom cruise film?

I am not knocking it mate, you guys seem to know what you’re doing, pissed or not!
Sports betting is probably one of those things that’s better when you’re a few drinks in, like playing pool, or babysitting.

Your having a right laugh on here aren’t ya?
Come on tell us who you really are;)
I’m really me! I found this forum searching the web for proper plasterers, because I’m not native to where I live now so I don’t know a plasterer personally, and I have found mybuilder to be a bit of a lottery, same with word of mouth, as not everybody knows what is good work and what is average or crap.

Now I get an email every time somebody posts in this thread, so even though I have found a plasterer I’m still here.

I am a bit of a plastering enthusiast so I like the info on the forum, and it is a nice/funny community.

When I was 14 I got a job labouring for a builder, just throwing s**t in the skip at first, but I was super interested in what the plasterers were doing, asked a lot of questions, ended up mixing up gear for them, then putting on scratch coat, trowelling up little bits. I got on the NVQ full time but dropped out around the end of the first year because, long story short, I was an idiot when I was 16.

I was lucky in that short time to labour for and train under some really good spreads, you know guys who had been on the tools 2 or 3 decades who would go apeshit if you called it a trade, because its a CRAFT!

I think plastering is physically and mentally challenging, in that you have to have the confidence that you are approaching the job correctly, and that once you wet the gear up you know you can do what needs doing before it all turns to s**t. I no longer have that due to going years in between picking the tools up. Last couple of bits of reskim I did were way too stressful.

I have got massive respect for anybody who has stayed in the game long enough to become good at it. The trade (CRAFT!!!) is undervalued in my opinion.
