It's Saturday night. Why are you on the forum? (nearly 200 of you). Why aren't you out?

You know why I'm not out - the pub's not worth going to in Ireland until midnight. Kick out at half past three.

It’s a bit early yet for a pint.Did no one tell you once you once you get involved here you can never leave.Part of the crew part of the ship.
Yeah I do like the banter. Been along time since I worked on building. Non stop piss taking all day long.

Same down here the pub empty till 11 and there till at least 3.

I think it's same all over Ireland. I had great difficulty with this when I first came here. The Loyal Men of Lancashire start drinking about half past seven and are all in be asleep hammered by half past ten, or taking pills and watching Banzai at home.

I tried to behave like that when I first came here and people thought I was a complete weirdo, hammered at the start of the night. It was three years before I actually went home because it was closing time.

Dont you find its a bit habit forming though.. I end up sleeping all day and awake all night.

I was in a pub in London a few years ago and it was the first time I heard that bell ringing carry on.

No. I wake up very early if I've been drunk and there's always meat to be had for breakfast in my house, so I can stagger in at three, wake up at 6 or seven, eat at eight, go about my business as normal and then pay it back straight away with an early night. It was even easier when I had the deg because my conscience got me out of bed to walk her.

What happened to the dog?

It's even better in Germany...the law is that there is no law...

We had a bar 200m down the road from camp and pay weekend, the owner stood behind that bar from 6pm Friday to 5am Monday. He knew that when the boys got paid, if he didn't grab it that weekend, they'd have spent it on prostitutes by next weekend, so there he stood, smiling and filling his till. You could even fall asleep in there, wake up and carry on drinking. No such thing as closing time.

She fell down dead at christmas....thankfully it was a stroke and that averted my two big fears of dog ownership....that I'd have to see her in pain or that I'd have to watch her get so old that she couldn't cope and I'd have to choose the day. I had to get her put down but the day was chosen for me and it didn't hurt her, she was just a bit confused.

I understand. I have had 4 go on me. 3 died in less than 12 months and the last of the 4 a few years later. Its hard......very very hard.

She was in to bat for a long time - coming on 19 years and she was in good shape right up to the end, so that was good.

Jeez my eldest my baby was 16.5. I thought that was old. I hung on for 2 weeks just hoping but I shouldnt have. Nearly feckin killed me.

That was exactly the situation that I was afraid of.

Lucky for me, it didn't pan out like that. She fell out of her bucket on Thursday and went sideways and fell over. I didn't like the look of it one bit, but I stood her up and she seemed to be OK, so there wasn't much else I could do.

Friday, I found her walking about all lop sided and it seemed I was right when I'd suspected a stroke...she'd had a little one, then a substantial one, but she was OK, not in any pain and could eat and drink, so I began to plan to manage her new disability.

Didn't have to worry about it long because Sunday, she had a catastrophic stroke, so I put her back in her bucket and hoped she'd die peacefully and save herself the trip to the vet. She didn't, so after a few hours, I took her.

And that was that.

You did the right thing and dont beat yourself up about it. Mine was ill the year before and recovered after a few weeks. Then she was getting ill again and she was a fighter to the last. I never slept for two weeks sitting up and clearing up after her...............I was wrong. I know that now. Never apart for more than a few days of her life. It was devastating.

Dreading my two going. s**t dog owner never get time to walk em now little ens here . I.d let em go to a new owner but wife wont and they are fantastic with little en

That's what I was saying....the right thing to do was very obvious...I didn't have to call an end to an illness or catastrophically decrepit old age...it just happened and all I had to do was pay £30 at the right time. It was a good innings right up til pretty much the last day - can't go too far wrong with that.

If you asked them they would rather stay with you.
