s**t gear again

b*ll***s gypsum do not recommend board finish on anything else but recycled own boards, you know that lads right?

We should start up a post telling each other what happened to plaster that you used that day only if has gone off . . say date, what type of background board etc PVA or grit etc used by date what happened first coat etc no other comments like rubbish stuff and nobody else comment on page just the basic along with the British gypsum @ so they can see we are not letting it go

Little bedroom today should have been straight forward. The gears been fine for a bit then BANG, it’s shite again.

I thought I’d take the time to take a few pictures, to show the doubters just how s**t the gear (multi) can be.

This was laid down with a fresh mix too.

So put it on, fine, lay down with fresh gear, fine.

Go to flatten. Oh here we go. It’s pulling, ripping, tearing, streaky bacon the lot.

Some areas gone off, and next to it piss wet:

The 2.5 hour gauge turns into 4 when it like this, plus alot of anger.

So there you go. Think yourself lucky if it hasn’t happened to you. It’s not user error its s**t product.

@BritishGypsum what do you reckon? I’ve got half a bag of this horse s**t in van if you want to test it and tell me there’s nothing wrong with it

And before you say it essexandy rich richyrichy no i didn’t leave it like that.View attachment 29848View attachment 29849View attachment 29850View attachment 29851View attachment 29852

@zombie out of curiosity how come you don’t rate the speedskim? Would have thought it would be perfect to close an area after sponging?

I’m open minded. I probably have had a go at some point.

Put on, lay down same mix, sponge the c**t. 2 trowels done?

That’s how we do it mate, 2 coats. Get it with the sponge fairly quick don’t need leave it for ages. Wet your sponge spray your wall and float. Then turn round and speedskim/trowel. One more after that. Done

Put on , flatten, fill here and there where is needed, no need for second coat, sponge, refina sexy3 ... home by 11:30 n your case :).
And you getting this out of me only because you settled down you arrogant carrot :fuckyou:

To be totally honest I've never tried to use a speedskim after sponging it could be the best thing since sliced bread but I wouldn't know.

I personally think the speedskim is best used when using a fresh 2nd coat which as you know I avoid like plague unless background dictates ie after artex etc

I will admit to using a spat same principal in timings as a speedskim but leaves the material as though its had a trowel and not rippley like a speedskim but still flat without lines and works into corners far better!

Breaks my heart to say this but 100% best thing to use after spongeing when timed correctly is a s*p*r*lex trowel makes it a pleasure!

I’m sure I’d figure it out salad but thanks.

I doubt one coat would suffice on re-skim?

Why flatten and fill, doesn’t sponge do that?

Yes I've warmed to our @lurpak he's been a big enough man to allow himself to be humbled!

I must seem like a dinasour to some on here but yet I'm under illusions I'm just a pup in knowledge to some forum legends such as @Rigsby @malc etc!

We all bring something to the table I've even seen my old apprentacises doing things after 1 month that I've thought good idea and taken on board!

I do act a t**t sometimes but never big headed about my abilities, although I am confident.

Probably an age thing that I’m more open minded, i’ll try anything that might make my day quicker, actually pretty excited to try the sponge thing.

As for the speedskim, i only really use it on ceilings but do highly rate it. Possibly even better when laying in with same gear.

I’m thinking. Put on, lay down same mix. Sponge, speedskim. Go from there.

@zombie do you flatten and fill before sponge? Can’t see why you’d need to do that before spounge?

You’ll get a finish you never done before, that’s why. Go to the private section and you’ll get the kick you after , not here so fancy poncy one coat wizz to play billy big balls gets the info he is after.

I was giving it a go but then went with an experienced plasterer who thought sponging was pants so gave it up, I will give it a go again :D

The secret to sponging is like anything in plastering ie timings.

THOUGH...the difference in getting it wrong is more dramatic, to early & to late your proper f**k*d!!!

Get gear on then flatten let it pick up sponge full set, then trowel out when the time is right!

Even if it works out for you with sponging etc you will want to see it painted to make sure it matches the finish you have been getting for years.
