Hi hope everyone is well ? Just after some advice on how to get started in Plastering ? Im 27 and have been fitting floors since I left school ( followed my old man into it ) I really want a change of career and plastering has always interested me . Is it a good game to be in at the moment ? Ive never attempted to plaster a wall in my life so I’d be starting right at the bottom of the ladder but if anybody has any weekend work in the Norfolk area I’d be more than happy to graft in exchange for some knowledge and an opportunity to learn . Thanks in advance

Hi mate, sounds like you have the right idea. Don't waste time and money on coursers, Speak to people round your way and find an old school spread with good reputation, or ring about and offer the weekend help thing..

Just be careful not to end up grafting/being used but not been shown owt

I'm going to be totally honest with you. Now listen and listen good.
Loads and loads and loads and loads and loads and loads and loads of people have exactly the same idea as you. I'd hazard a guess that for every one that makes a success of it over a hundred fail.
Believe me plastering is a very difficult trade to learn to a good standard across the different areas. It is a very tough and competitive trade to get into.
If you want to learn a new trade you would be way, way better off training to be a plumber or electrician. I have given this advice to several friends and family over the years and any that have taken my advice have thanked me later.

Thanks for the advice lads . I will get on the case . Haha I’ll make you right weekend work ain’t ideal but needs must I’d like to go full time and learn but not sure I’d cover my costs for the first few years while I’m learning . As for plastering being a tough trade I don’t doubt it for one minute mate and I definitely don’t expect it to be easy I just think it’s a proper skill to have and one I wouldn’t mind learning (or attempting to learn) cheers

Wants some advise
Find something else to do...
Or
torn rotor cuffs
Bad back
Stiff neck
Tennis elbow
Bad knees
And the obligatory lung deseases due to dust to look forward to..lol
