I've always skim whith two coat but seen lads lately one coat flatten whith speed skim spunge in 20minute for it to pick up again flatten again and final trowel when the timing rhight looks less hassle not to mix and give second coat il do anything to save time and energy lol

Never tried it and at this stage doing domestics i doubt i will. In saying that if you get a good process going and the qualitys there and it puts more money in the bank why not. Just to balance things up one coating would be like putting the wrong shoes on the wrong feet.

I might give it a go If it going to make my life easier and the end product good y not I know for a fact one coat will not work on artex overskim

1 coating is no faster than 2 coating!! Fact!!
Do what’s right always 2 coat with fresh gear!!
Be a proper spread not a w**k*r trying to cut corners!! Xx
I'm not trying to cut corners m8 I always try my best and if it works and the quality is good y not you have to move whith times. and the trouble whith some people they don't like to try.i get your point it does look a bit stupid one coat system. So you have tried and it not any faster then??

2 coats always. I used to 1 coat on some council jobs but the quality wasn't the same and can't be.. I also love the second stage with fresh stuff.. Just goes on so nice and is less work to do when it comes to0 flattening
I find. All the lines in the first coat are mostly taken out with a second coat.

Yes that true m8 on some walls but if you have been plastering 30 years you taped and pinc you joint and I'm talking flat new walls if you can get that flat in one and good finish ther must be something wrong

I,ll one coat under stairs cupboard etc but can’t get it quite as good as two coats but seen it done and it was spot on .

Why are there lines left in your first coat, don't you flatten it

2 coats faster than 1

Bag instructions say 2 coats

2 coats stronger than 1

It does say on Feb not to mix whith lime many do done it my self and had no problem many mix other admixture to but it state not to so if you get a good finish whith one coat flat wall y bother whith two I think it all depends on backround and if your able to master that by the way two coat is going back 30 40 years do you think ther going to state one coat on ther bags lol

It's weird I often don't need to flatten boarded walls but always need to with ceilings, must be something in my method

A lot of 'old skool' spreads didn't flatten their first coat, they just put it on neat in the first place. That's not a dig, just the truth.
Agree . Think its a domestic thing. Were on a new build next week and boy are they rough . So gonna have a pop at cutting flatner out. And by rough get ready for pics of there boarding

It’s funny, actually, I’ve had customers who know f**k all about plastering but even they know its 2 coats lol

The bag now says 2 coats but some years ago it just said to apply 2mm of plaster which is when one coating became more common. BG never intended it to be one coated, they just weren't clear that it should be two coats. It was after someone told me to read the back of the bag, something I never did before, that I gave one coating a go.
