Advice Needed - Cowboy Plasterers

Nah, just careful to slate other peoples work when you don't know all the details! It does look s**t though and shouldnt have gone over the paper.

That in no way excuses the job left though mate
I'm sure others will disagree with me but with those pictures and it being a 32sqm lid you can't crucify the bloke that did it...it's a bit scabby and watermarked around the light but apart from that can't even really make detail out on the rest. Chap starts thread called cowboy plasterer and just wants everyone to call it....don't think they would have skimmed the paper without being told to and think poster just wants his vindication to refuse to pay

Remove it all and start again then but a load of money for old rope ....20 minutes with some sandpaper and will be fine but you already know what you want to do

26sq m in 20 minutes! It’s not only sanding it would need, it needs filling too.

No I don’t know what I want to do, I just wish it was done properly the first time and I wouldn’t be having all this stress of trying to get someone else’s terrible work fixed. Ive just spent £20k on a new heating system, flooring and decoration. It’s the £600 job that’s making the outcome look botched.

I don't mean to be a dick mate....get the plasterer back to sand and fill not you. The ceiling isn't great but seen some right shite on here and that's save able with a bit of tlc.....if needs be tell him to sand and fill and you'll pay in full when painted or say he can paint and you'll pay him for the plastering and painting when done and looks right

Firstly they did skim on the paper without telling me.

I couldn’t care less about the £600, I would much rather it was done properly. Here’s the report from the survey I had done.

“please see below finding from your enquiry and my visit to your property today to survey plastering work completed over paper.

Main Reception Room Ceiling
1.Checked and inspected ceiling for and any lose sections and safety/

No loose sections found

2.Checked ceiling for quality finish/
Poor sections of work round light bulb, above the chimney Brest, on ceiling Some bubbling above book case on ceiling.
Finished to a poor standard unsuitable for decorating not great value for money.

Hall ceiling
1.Checked ceiling for Safety and if the plaster is loose

The ceiling is safe and not lose.

2.Checked ceiling for quality
Poor workmanship, the plasterers have plastered round the ceiling rose of the the light fitting, this should allways be removed and plastered under.

Brush indentations round the perimeter of the ceiling between ceiling and cornice.

The ceiling has not been finished to a good standard meaning a lot of extra work for a decorator.”

Fook me, you made a plasterer feel like a real person for a few hours. Nice one!

So it's not loose...bonus.....not ideal but tell the decorator to sand it....problem solved

folk completely missing the point. the guy has had someone in to do a professional job and it looks like "dog s**t. Wether or not it can be saved is irrelevant. would you like it if someone came and left a job like that. the answer is no,. it's the hassle of it all too, calling folk back out to do it. he has young kids and needs in the room

Do people really believe this acceptable workmanship? When I was a carpenter, if I hung a door that didn’t shut, I wouldn’t tell the customer to just sand it down. Is this acceptable in the plastering trade?

You haven't painted it so don't know....it's the equivelant of saying I'm not paying because the door doesn't shut without testing if the door shuts

While things can and do go wrong a decent spread would know it wasn't up to scratch and say so. As far as plastering over wallpaper I'd never do it.

They've just come in and said f**k it, it's Friday by the looks of it. In the pub for 7:01

More to the point who the f**k is the surveyor for a bit of plastering??????
I did a job for a builder i know he fell out with the client who got a surveyor in to do report . One of the points he made was plaster stuck to the inside of electrical boxes.

I’ll get the other company in to fix the finish and will debut that cost from what the original plasterer is owed. He’s offered to fix it but I’ve told him I’m more comfortable with someone else doing it and he understands. I’m not looking to screw anyone over and believe I’m being fair in that approach. The most frustrating thing is they went and plastered over the paper, meaning removing it so a proper job could be done, is no longer an option. I would have happily spent 3 days scraping the paper off myself if I had known I could have avoided this situation I’ve now been put in.

Paint or no paint, if you just look at or run your hand over the surface you can tell it will look terrible, like an 19th century pub ceiling.

I take pride in my work and when I was on the tools, I would do everything as if it was my own house. I can’t stand sloppy work from people that don’t care.

Good point, I save all my s**t work for my own house.

not really fair to dock his bill if he has offered to sort the job out himself.

I find myself in a strange place in that i agree with the customer 100%

No time served plasterer would put there name to skimming over a wooodchip ceiling without the home owners consent!

The finish is irrelevent good, bad, or indefferent its the practice that is wrong!

That said i still smell a rat with all this survey malarky over a small plastering job, thats just somebody hes paid to find faults 100% fact imo!
