TPF Official Fishing Thread

Had my first try at fishing only last week. Always been quite negative towards it but was casting on the menai for mackeral and really enjoyed it. Ended up catching a little Pollock. I know absolutely rock all about fish and fishing but just bought a beach casting rod and reel under my mates advice and can't wait to get back on the water

I think whether I'd caught something or not I would still be interested in fishing. It was more of casting out and playing the reel. Not sure what type of fishing it's called where you sit and wait for something to pull your hook and set off an alarm but I feel that would bore me.

Ha ha. Yep, that's how I used to think. Tbf, I'll always be an active fisherman, just at the mo, the goal posts have changed a bit. A lot depends on what you're trying to target. You can potentially catch fish, big or small on any method and bait, if its presented correctly and at the right time and with an element of luck.
Certain methods, and on the right waters will pretty much guarantee that you'll catch. The difference is, that certain specimen fish can be a bit more savvy and its more about a game of tactics when it comes to catching them. A good compromise is to fish 'regularly' and also chuck out a 'sleeper' rod. This way, you can be actively fishing, and also have a setup geared towards catching something bigger that will notify you when the bite alarm goes off.

My first fish was a pike over in ireland and I was only about 6...s**t my pants

I'm out beach casting Saturday in north Wales on Saturday with a couple of mates. Can anyone recommend anywhere in particular to go. Was looking at Llandudno beach but as we haven't been anywhere before I'd prefer a recommendation. Looking for an early start. The trip gets better as one of the lads has a tin tent in Chester so we're stopping there Saturday night after a sesh in Chester

Fishing holiday for me Saturday to Saturday so 7 days of back resting and carp fishing, also it's got big barbel for still water so would like to snag one of those as not caught many barbel. Carp to 25 so you never know.....fingers crossed. Also got the bonus of a nice log cabin and a hot tub

Whereabouts?

So, back to my question in hand. Where on north Wales should we go. 3 of us going. 1 is a keen fisherman but never tried spinning from a beach before

I'm not really a sea fisherman Rob, so don't know the answer to that. Prob need to google that one!

Ah OK...haven't come across that one before. Will have a Google later.
Anyway, sounds like it'll be perfect for you at this time :)
Yes mate is a nice place we've been a few times, quite a lot of smaller carp bit still nice for the alarm to off. Also take dogs which is good for us. Cabins literally about 4 feet from the bank

Of course...there's one of those everytime :D

Hopefully going back to Bishops Bowl on Fri for an overnighter...see if I can get one on the bank this time! :bailando::musculoso:

Cheers. I've had a look at a few sites but I'm still very green with all this. So far I've had about a dozen casts with a rod and going balls deep with a little fishing trip. Got a new rod and gear, box should be delivered today. Been told from my mate my task is to find the location and buy mackeral for bait. One lad has ordered some kind of worm to arrive Friday. It's all very exciting

That was the first thing that popped up in Google with regards to Wales, fishing, beach casting etc.

Have only done a bit of spinning off a pontoon and once of the rocks before, never beach casting so can't really give you any advice other than be careful of mud and the tide.

Tbf, if I was a bit closer to the coast, then I would probably favour sea fishing. Something romantic about catching your supper! :asadito:
