Scottish but moving to England

As you know guys, I'm coming back to the UK next year. I'd prefer not to go back to Scotland for personal reasons and many other things and I want to make a go of it in England. I know it's not a plastering question as such, although it does have an affect, but which counties are good to live in? Nice, affordable, shortage on trades for example. I know it's a pretty vague question, but i don't want to end up in an area like Blackburn where half the population (I hate to say it) are Muslim and don't integrate - that's not a place I'd want my children growing up. I'm doing research every day and learning more about down south but I'd like your tuppence-worth. Any cities, towns and especially counties (areas with more potential customers) you can recommend or give insight into wuld be great. Cheers!

I'm in Nottinghamshire, nice amount of work and can get a terrace house for 60k. So I can't complain

Surrounding I'm around 35mins from notts, Derby and Sheffield so got my pick of cities to work in

Such a weird thread , without being rude mate where ever you go it’s probably gonna be a lot different to it was when you left the u.k
Can’t advise you any place in particular but I’d move near family or friends or both

Not weird buddy, simply looking for advice. nothing more, nothing less.

Cambridge would be my choice. not cheap, no shortage of work. up market clientele , it is the best recession protected city that i know of.
if i was in your position i would also consider Rotterdam. it is growing at such a rate that work is self generating. plus their methods are years ahead of uk .

Rotterdam, UK?

Rotterdam is a good base. plastering is a lot easier , high wages, Dutch way of life, English language, and French food. knocks uk for 6 on every aspect.
Thanks for the advice. But I'll be coming back tot he UK to start a family too.

Yorkshire . Friendliest people on planet

^He means Lancashire.

The ***** all live in the little houses associated with mill towns. If you keep away from them, then you'll be all right. Try the Haslingden sort of area and you'll be grand.

In Lancashire you mean?
I heard Blackburn for example is now less than 50 percent British white - that terrifies me.

I can't comment on that. I lived in Burnley for a bit and I think most of those types of towns are the same. There's a whole bunch of little two up two downs that used to be the mill houses. I lived in one in Stonyholme, nearly all ***** in that area because they don't like to spend money on housing.

Run down looking place with s**t pubs because that's how they do things, pound shops and burger places everywhere, BUT, it was a safe area. No bother there. You don't see much of them outside of their own area and things trundle along pretty smoothly, overall.

You pays your money, you takes your chance I guess.

There's no mill houses outside of the mill towns, so no *****, but you'll pay a LOT more for a house.

I appreciate your advice mate. It'll come in handy for sure.

Where are you now?

I'm in Ireland.

From what the lads here are saying though, you might be better off cash-wise down South.

The trouble with down South though, is it's full of southern Not-rights and I'd rather stoke the fires of hell than live south of Manchester - unless you went Cotswalds sort of way. It's cheaper than you might think over there, once you get the other side of Oxford.
