1930s 2 brick/no cavity external render?

I've just bought the above house in the Wirral area, it's currently rendered but this is going to be removed and replaced. I have a few questions which I would be grateful to be helped out on!

1) Am I right in reading that a sand and cement render on these walls will only cause damp? And because of that I should be using a lime based render?

2) Will this render be suitable for the extension which is I think thermalite? Or should I be requesting something else on there?

3) I know K-Rend do a lime render, but are their other products not breathable? Are there any other similar but cheaper brands?

Thanks!

Through coloured renders are all breathable,as they contain a decent amount of lime, the question would be does it have lime mortar joints between the bricks, 30s build I doubt it, so a standard through coloured render would suffice. Thermalite blocks are 3.5 n again a standard through coloured render would do, but it would just want a primer first, to kill the suction, and I'd fully mesh it. But being a double skin brick substrate I'd look at an insulation system prior to rendering, if window details etc allowed.

I think you'll find that if you're removing the existing render building regs will kick in and you'll have to insulate the walls either internally or with an insulated render system.

Is it a solid floor or has it got a void?? (Groundfloor)
Sand and cement doesnt allow it to breathe at all makes sure theres plenty of air vents.
There is still cement in the base coat im not a 100% convinced the new renders would solve anything.

Modern renders fully breathable ! No base coat required

All render will crack

It shouldn't be down for the customer to get a spec, it's the renders job, and even then if he's uses the product all the time he won't need a spec on every job would he.
Just use sand and cement easy to manitain paint and repair end of

Why can't customer get a spec ? He's the one asking the Qs ? This job is not a average project so why not ask the manufacturer their advise ? We spray 100s of m2 a week but still get specs

We spray meterage in the 1000s a week at this time of year, and dont bother, unless it's something out of the ordinary. it's just a run of the mill job, ask a renderer/s to look at it for there advice and get them to do the leg work, but you could argue the toss all day with it, it's a forum so everyone has different ways of approaching things .
