Constant search for perfection

That’s not great for me I’m following sparks round patching, amazes me how they always think plasterer can get that when trunking sticking out the wall by a couple of mill, yeah of course I can get that flat with the wall mate

Who struggles with this?

I am never 100% happy with my plastering even though 9 times out of 10 it is Bob on but I always find something I am not happy with and it niggles away at me.
but isn't what will always separate the wheat from the chaffe

I’m same mate
Even said it to a guy last week any problems when painted to ring me tbh I’d rather snag something that’s not looking just right than anyone else

Yup same as.... I have always said that and use to phone them up a week later to see how it has gone and what not... it's also a great way to upsell more work...

Seen some shocking plastering on site and domestic and sure most of it comes down to the people that don't care.

When i started i got told never to think your perfect as your standards will drop .
I think more you do it more you get a eye for perfection.
I dont think there are many plasterers who can do a room and another plasterer can go in and pick a tiny imperfection .

You see more when you paint it,,, different light angles etc,,,, one of the best judges is painters if they praise your work.
Anything hand applied will have bits, bobs don't care who they are.
Plasterers most time are gone when work is dry, that looks different.
Painted looks different.
Down lighters, up lighters fitted powered up looks different. So many variables.

I hate when its drying . Always looking at s**t whats not there

One way i check my work as mad as it sounds . I shut my eyes and run fingers down .

We have small halogen lamps on long leads that we check the wall with light from different angles 3/4 way through the set, only takes a minute and does help keep standard. @Jojo1974 will tell you I'm very particular

I’m the same Danny. Guy who trained me up told me off about it.

It really is a terrible trade to have any form of o.c.d. As already mentioned there is so many variables, and there’s only so much the product can do.

You want perfection on 100 out of a 100 jobs but the reality is only 2 or 3 customers out of a 100 are looking for it.

It really is a terrible trade for scrutiny. Customers with google and an led light. Pesky painters moaning to customers.

I allways beat myself up about my work

You can only ever try to do your best, no point otherwise, its a question of pride .

A really bright light helps to show any in perfections. I mean a really bright one! That's all I have found that helped me produce a good finish. Always something to snag when dry though but that's the nature of the product and job

I know what you mean. Finished an attic room last week, it was in a property over 100 years old, with original lath and plaster that needed parts of it replacing. Got it looking like a new pin but then sat there admiring but also criticising it(watermarks etc). Its not a bad approach to have high standards.

To be honest I don't mind it...

When I was full time my reputation was that I was more money than other plasterers but got the work because of my standards and ethics.

Even down to this forum... I only promote the best tools and services if I promote something that is crap then my reputation takes a hit

I think most on here have very high standards and take a lot of pride in their work.
