Hi guys I’m thinking about taking on a labourer (as getting to old to do it on my own!!) what is the going no rate for one, is it just minimum wage? I’m a bit nervous about doing it. Always worked on my own really. Is it worth it? All help appreciated [emoji16]

£100 a week cash.
dont waste anymore in case they dont like it.

We posted at same time lol I did mean a day tbh

I’d also struggle to cover that with a labourer in extra work to make it pay

a gang maybe £50 a day to start..... but id never pay £250 a week for a fella who would cost me money then realised it wasnt for him.
were not big ground working firms were tradesmen.
big companies who earn millions a year wouldnt pay anyone that.
i never got it.
its not being tight
its realistic(y)

I’d struggle to pay more than £50

rigbsy
clemo
scottie5

id pay £50 a day to learn off these lads.
5 years for an accountants or soliciters papers !!
£100 a week is plenty.

these lads will show you how to make a decent living (y)

differnt ways of making money

start from the bottom.

Good luck finding a useful lab.
Last one I had, I gave him a three day trial I told him I would pay him what he was worth,at the end of the three days he owed me thirty quid:crying:

sounds like my 10 year old ripping me off everyday o_O

40 a day I got at 21 labouring, most I got Labouring was 55 a day. There is some can get up to 70 a day if they are good enough, but it's few and far between. Average is 50-60. And it is very hard to get a decent one these days. Too many lazy fucks about

I’ve had a few all bone idle. Paid 50 a day and felt like I’d been robbed. A labourer actually slows me down now.

I can’t even trust them to pva a wall properly it’s pathetic tbh.

Id love a keen one who listens and wants to learn but i gave up trying.

I just have a few doll dossing bums on standby who i can call upon when needed like big ceiling overboarding, although I can Do that myself no problem but id rather preserve the energy for skimmin

Just had a flashback of one absolute idiot. I came to the room and all my angle beads were on the floor bent in half. He said it was easier to bring them upstairs. That was his last day

Is it not easier to carry them that way?

The going rate for a labourer is £180 a day and you're in luck. I can start tomorrow.

More seriously, the people who want to try to pay £50 a day and then acting surprised when they find that only mongs will work for it..... SERIOUSLY? Are you honestly surprised that you can only get unemployable mongs for less than the minimum wage?

I think 50 is more than fair to pva a few walls. Also learning a decent trade at the same time.

If the labourer is that good he’d be a spread. Take your 50 and stfu

Might only be worth £50 to you but if he can get £70 for putting stuff on shelves, then you're putting the PVA on yourself and Tescos get the man.

Different ball game if you're going to teach him. But then you won't get to keep him when he knows enough to do one, he will.

I had this trouble when I was jobbing. Pay the young fellas £6 a hour and they'd f**k everything up the minute I turned my back. Or spend their wages getting pilled up and not turn up the next day.

Tradesmen wouldn't work for the £10 that I'd pay a proper man but I couldn't pay a man a tradesman's wage to dig.

The fellas who were capable of jobbing were already jobbing for themselves so I ended up doing everything myself.

When I started working for the fella who showed me how to put things together, the tradesmen laughed. 'New man - how long will you last?' The fella I was working for had gone through ten men in the last year. I'd known him a long time though and worked for the family as a youngster, plus both being ex army we had something in common.

We had our fight eventually, of course but it wasn't because of me. Doing a job for his old man. He deducted an hour's brew off each day and the son wouldn't stop.

Working an hour for free each day got real old real fast and ended in tears.

I understand but my theory is if you’re going to pay a ‘high end’ labourer 80 a day.. you might aswell get a spread in for 1 day instead of a labourer for 2. Much more gets done.

A cheap decently labourer is worth having but they don’t exist.

Seems the best bet is to make him half a spread and pay him 3/4 of a spreads wage.

Can't charge the customer extra so's you can have an easy life because the Polish man is right behind you charging the customer £200 a day. If you're looking for £300 because you've got a labourer, then the Polish man gets the job. That makes perfect sense.

But if he can do all the labouring and throw on two walls, then you're out of there in 6 hrs, beading up the next job for tomorrow and all of a sudden, they guy is worth every penny of £80 or £100 a day.

That's why I threw the head up years ago, was in process serving time, but got as far as I could having to labour as well, could leave walls decent, better than some the time served ones, but needed get quicker, but was only gettin paid basic lab rate, and had to coat trowel rub etc as well. Needless to say I just stopped lifting my tools out the can as I want gettin paid for it, and first opportunity to get away, I took it. And for more dough I might add. Lol
