Been a few threads about electric vans , well looks to me like they definitely on there way , 4 years ain’t a long time , will come round quick, just seen the new vw camper which is taking over the old classic surfer dudes van , 270 miles on a charge and 80% charge in 30 minutes , some of the features on this are unreal, self driving, I’d say work vans will be same ish
Check it out

Charging points are the issue here,I can picture lads driving around here with a generator in the back charging one and the back door open and nothing only black smoke coming out of it.

They have 4 years to get ready, I got a feeling it’s coming mate , will be interesting to see if they do or not , thinking why would vw go to all this trouble of making that beast if they didn’t know something we all don’t , if you know what I mean

I’d love a van I didn’t have to drive too that would be great

I'm sure sooner or later will happen, not so sure about how environmental friendly them batteries tho.

Self-driving...suits me. I can have an extra nap on the way to work, bollox to Jeremy Clarkson and Co.

That's a nice looking van; just needs a bag of multi scattered all over the back and a few 'go faster stripes' from clumsily handled angle beads :D

50k for the van and another 10k expenses per year! You still want one?

Finance mate , if you got it spend it , not got it , lend it

I’d rather be snoozing in self driving van on way to work than driving a clapped out transit

Yes it is coming and they are a good idea once there not outrageously expensive and the charging is hassle free.

Thief proof too..............just run the battery right out every night! Charge up in the morning.....cabooom!
Imagine all the stolen cars in the future just running out of power in the police chase..............

I don't see how people can charge who don't have thier own driveway. We need self driving cars that can drive to thier own charge point and dock

A couple of years or so ago my mate got an electric car. It was this and that, the best thing since sliced bread. Great subsidies, charging points here there and everywhere, "it's the future, we'll all have one soon", he reckoned.
A little while back he turns up, "where's the leccy car mate?" I enquired, "oh the subsidies changed and it's no longer viable", he replies.
Just like so many of these new technologies, if they're not heavily subsidised they're just too expensive.
Also after the diesel fiasco who'd trust VW on their predicted ranges or running costs?

I reckon we all go around in dodgem cars like on the fair and f**k insurance companies off by happily crashing into each other on the way to work? Be great way to meet milfs too (y)

I have a friend who drives a leccy as its a business car and they have green emissions targets as a big business. So they don't care about the cost. That's mostly who will be driving these.

I do honestly forsee car parks full of charging points and nobody's car is parked at thier house.... The car drives away... Enters a secure parking facility. Charges itself. Then returns to you when you want it. Never needing to search for a parking space again. The car will know a bay is free in advance and will pre book it.

We will have charging platelets in the road surface that will use solar and as the car travels over it will receive a constant charge.........mark my words.....
I used be enthralled by the telly programme “tomorrow’s world”........some of the stuff they introduced are commonplace now....

Mobile ‘phones........pffft......they’ll never catch on........

Electric cars are bloody quick....

I know a bike blogger who owns a panigale and was give an electric bike and he crashed the eleecy one :)

I think it is the future or we are vwry close

I can agree with that. The way tesla pulls on the traffic lights is unbelievable!

So do you think that leaving all the pot holes is just forward thinking? Somewhere to put the chargers?

Tesla by far the quickest thing I’ve ever been a passenger in, he booted it and said it’s not running efficiently cz it’s cold but that was 0-60 in about 4 seconds. Still rapid

Quickest car i have ever driven...

One of my most memorable car moments was watching a model s go sideways in the monaco tunnel with no engine noise

The battery technology is still a good few years away from making them truly viable. I would also not be surprised to see all cars restricted to a top speed of the national speed limit when leccy cars do start to become the norm.

Agreed, there's a new magnesium battery technology in the pipeline which should double capacity over lithium ion/polymer. As for top speed, I'll be asleep in the back with the car on autopilot.

Just imagine, stumble out of the pub...car programmed to recognise your voice under any circumstance..."urpen ip ya fikin stoopid lektric junkpaal"...it opens, you hit the big red 'home' button with your head, fall asleep and the car automatically keeps you warm if you don't get out at the other end...and takes you to work the next morning in case you still haven't woken up...

The other problem with electric is that they burn rather well.

When hammond crash the rimac it was burnig for 3 weeks....
