.. Reading through the archives about the best spec for plastering a fireplace. Victas, fermacell etc I've done a few over the years Some I've done S&c, others dabbed fireline board . Client is putting an arga type cooker into this opening, personally I don't think heat resistance is an issue. Anyhoo, client wants smooth throughout . Be interested to hear your approach

how hot does an arger get?

I’d use ocr sponged up, skim front and leave the inside sponged up stainless steel stop bead around the opening unpainted

Victas board & calk joins on internal or tell them to tile inside.

Yet to see 1 yet that hasn't cracked over time on inside including 1s I've done correctly with heat resident plaster or sand & cement.

Would you just dab boards bud?

Me too but client was smooth finish
I'm pretty sure you could just dry line with an argar unless anyone can correct me? Could play it safe and mix together vincey and zombies way? Victas or cement board inside caulked, standard board face and use stop bead .

Or throw brick acid at it and shout "VOILA!!!"

The only place that gets hot enough to affect plaster is the bit immediately around the flue. The rest of it's no warmer than behind a radiator. (y)

Render with sand and cement but let it dry out for a good few days if you can, key the render quite deep and skim, they give off heat but nothing like a log burner or you wouldn't be able to cook lol

Admit it you pressed it and Mrs imago saw you looking  Dirty Larry :risas2:

I didn't click on it, I just assumed it was some weird deviant stuff for two reasons :-

1) You posted it.
