Rendering over old concrete render with K Rend

Hi,

I am new to this forum and this is my first post. We are about to renovate our house which is an average sized 3 bed semi. One half was built in around 1910 (red brick) and the other half in 1970s (concrete block). It is concrete render all over - the side and back render is in good condition with no cracks whereas the front is pretty bad with a few big cracks, also the older half has a slightly different texture render to the newer half. What would the best solution be for this? We have been pointed in direction of K Rend - can K rend be put onto the old render or does it need removing first? Someone also suggested that we can pull off all loose old render and patch it and skim it. Will this just be a bodge finish?

Can anyone recommend a company or person in the Gloucester/Worcester area? We will also need a plasterer to completely re plaster some walls and skim rest, a couple of ceilings replacing and one floor screeding.

Get a render specification from which ever manufacturer you are using and ask them for a list of there approved installers

if its concrete render it would be a solid wall house? if so would recommend external wall insulation.

if its sound render i would recommend a light weight render... thincoat krend or similar

K Rend is one of many manufacturers. Yes if the existing is sound and clean you can go over the top.

If your chosen contractor is manufacturer approved he will be able to get a manufacturers specification and warranty.

has your render been decorated?
if building control get involved it will be external wall insulation.
if not i would go for a base coat with full mesh, then an acrylic finish.

correct.i think its if you remove over 50 percent or something.... but......... they actually can not enforce it...
I was aware if it can't remember the % of internal and external but Ive heard of it being enforced, in every case they wouldn't let them have like for like because the it wouldn't come up to current U values.
