Quite obviously just wants a leg up the ladder...why would anyone be bothered!!!

Think he needs to understand who's doing who a favour in this situation!!!

Semi skilled can work quite well. There's plenty plasterers out there who learned that way.

Labourers who knock up, then assist boarding, then board themselves, then do small easy walls rather than watch the spread work, then help with a big ceiling and then end up a plasterer.

You've got some skill mate, an aptitude, sounds like you have a decent attitude as well.
Try to get in with a local builder, explain your situation, tell him you won't charge too much if he'll let you do a bit at the pace you can manage. Sell it to him/her ( see what I did there ?), as a win/win deal, that way, you get a steady chance to improve, he gets a good job done......
Also, buy some books on plastering, you will find a wealth of knowledge that way.......good luck.

I picked up work just like that when I was over in Manchester. I got work out of it and he trousered £40 a day difference in what he charged to what he paid me. Everyone happy. Except that time when I fcuked up and the customer went menkle. Served him right for hammering me with work that'd challenge a plasterer who'd been at it 20 year on my second day. He calmed down a bit after that and everything else went all right.
