Wondering if anyone can advise? want to put ashlar lines back into my render on my own house as we think they had them original (Georgian). We are lime rendering. Lime render is mostly what we do yet the art of the ashlar line seems allusive.
We have tried a featheredge and a screw driver to drag a line to achieve the ashlar yet always have break out from the line. The aim is to achieve a perfect 3mm V line with no breakout?

Has anyone come across this or know of a tool to achieve this with? I have researched the net and books and cant find anything apart from "quoin cutters"? Nothing for ashlar lines.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

I completed a large job in the summer with ashlar bands, rusticated quoins, and window detail.
It would be very hard to explain over the internet!!
I got a local guy in for the day to point me in the right direction completed the job to full specification.
I would try and do the same as it will be very hard to replicate the finish you need without any experience!!

Ashlar lines can be from 3-5 mm wide and the same in depth.
I've used all sorts of gadgets to make the lines
The top of a tube of silicone , piece of earthing wire with u bend on it
The end of a bic pen.
The best job I ever did had keystones and quoins all marked out and I did it in the winter. A rendered the front and the gable rubbed it up and applied the lines the next day. It was easier and there was no marks from holding a long edge.

Always cut Ashler lines the day after it has been rendered. Simply work out where lines have to be cut get a straight edge and level and cut with a masonry disc. When I say masonry disc I mean cut disc in half with a grinder and away you go mate.
