Does anyone actually love plastering still

I think we make it shite for ourselves sometimes.

We say yeah to these jobs that we dont put much thought into, we get there start laying and think why the F am I here? The whole job from that point turns into a chore. That's when we loose the love, well I do anyway.

Then we get these other jobs in, good money for a couple of nice sets its a breeze no worries all done and out the door. The next day we could be on a shite job thinking for F sake I had a nice day yesterday and now I'm doing this.

I still have very much love for all aspects of plastering ive struggled over the years with money and a young family luckily plastering has kept us at a happy medium and got us out of the shittt. And when I do get pissed off on a job I think about that, then I realise that it is more than a job its a escape, a provider and at more than a million times its got me out of the shittt.

I've lost sets, had ones not come up as well as I wanted, scraped of top coat render where it wont dry, had non payers etc but I still come in the next day and get on with it.

Fuckk it!

Truthfully I hate it, but I'm 41 left school expelled at 13 come from a very tough upbringing background and genuinely don't know how else I'd put food on the table now.

On the flip side I've come from nothing been brought up by 1 patent and spend my school days in educatuon/state clothing. I know live in a big detached house never had to take a loan for any of our vehicles and have enough stashed away to cover rainy days and have a family holiday abroad ever yr.

Never going to be mega rich but never going to be destitute or unemployed again I guess.

Sadly lost my best mate and work mate 18 months ago that I worked with for around 10 yrs and subsequently work on my own now and have really suffered with depression since.

As others have said if you can at least have a giggle hear and there and share the burden of work with someone else its half of the battle.

Wouldn't genuinely even know how to look for a proper job noe, truth be known I struggle at times with my 11 yr olds homework!

Hey up, just wanted to say sorry to read about your friend.. hope you feel better in not to distance future mate :birra:

personally i have had enough of plastering ,mixing/skimming/been near a bag of multi,...the whole lot,...but it pays the bills/holidays etc,......but the problem being your own boss is and i have worked for myself for 25 years now,....we would all find it very difficult to work for somebody,...basically we have all become unemployable,...i just could not work for anybody,......i know a joiner who had had enough ,got himself a job at tesco,...but left after 4 weeks,....found it hard to adjust to a full hour dinnerbreak/being told what to do/and just the whole working for somebody again,....so we go on ,....until my handboard has had enough.

Plasterers til we die......might get a tattoo......mmm

Have a love/hate relationship with plastering/other work. I love getting paid and hate getting up in the morning and knowing ive to be a slave for 8 hours! One thing i enjoyed about the recession, my life was my own. I could go and do what ever i wanted when i wanted. Gym 5 days a week, sleep until what time i wanted. Didnt have to worry about going out and getting pissed up at the wknd because i knew there was no work to go to next day. Would love to win the lotto and take a hammer to all my tools, then bury the bastarding things! But, i wont win th elotto, need to put bread on the table and kids to put through collage so looks like its a slave for me until im in my 50s :(

Love it

Nope and I've just found out there is a r/s that's in between the skim one and render one. Ritmo heaven

Hate it , not sure if its plastering or just going to work but I think its both .
In all fairness to plastering even in the recession I got enough work to pay the bills but its a miserable job that still doesnt pay enough

What is the r@s for

I think it's the right one for spraying topcoat properly.

The render r/s out puts 3.5l at speed 0. That's to quick for my liking.

The "medium" sprays at 1.5l at 0 up to 7ish. Perfect for acrylic topcoat and also for ready mix.

Happy days

@theclemo you think it's bad for you I've had nearly 1500 veiws on this thread I started and not even a notification saying well done

Just had a think about this..... I don't think I know 1500 people.....might know say 100.... out of those like, possibly 10.....so by getting this thread read by 1500 strangers(unless you've got a big family)... that's quite a responsibility......bit like "life of Brian".....are you the new messiah?.
