10am till 3pm

Going back to a post above, it is what is installed into as an apprentice.

My hours was 8am bearing in mind all of us bussed it and 5 pm finish but if the boss was not around we scarpered at 4.40pm.

The small builders I subbed to also demanded a days work (8hours) for a days money. Any less and they wanted a discount. So my first 20 years was disciplined.

But my men if left to their own would be 8.30 till 3 if they could but they have to adopt bodgit and scarper attitude to get away with it. I really don't want the hassle that brings so a full day it is. Plenty of time to do it right and left clean. I can be confident in getting paid.
I can remember waiting in rain waiting to be picked up at 6am loads of times I was always told we do 8-4 anything earlier is a bonus rarely did we do them hours cos we would start early and finish early but if it's in your head 4pm finish you don't clock watch, trouble is once a few start going at 3.45 it then becomes 3.30 and so on so its best to have something in place with people who work for you

Quoting for work - a skill on its own. A mate of mine (Salesman), used to tell me - when you walk into the house have a quick look for their interests e.g footie stuff etc, then get chatting to them about that and your sure to secure the job. One quote I walked into (African couple) had pictures of the slaves working in the fields - I didn't at that quote find it appropriate to say "ah slavery, I love that"

Not according to brazzers...

I don't believe the one we have here are real lesbians. All the real ones are tall skinny blonde big breasted hotties, who if you we're working in their house would ask you to come join in with them and their significant other.

My mate has started taking Saturdays off then working Sundays through to Fridays seems strange but like ge says everything is open on a Saturday so you can actually enjoy your day off

I'm 33 now and I know should be at prime but for about 8 years I worked my arse off could never say no to jobs and money was handy even when me and ex split up and it was my weekend with my boy I would work and didn't see the problem with leaving him with my mum or new Mrs but it came to a point where enough was enough and I had to reign it in i won't get these years back from him and so decided life to short and he needs to remember me,now we go football almost every week home and away we do loads together and I get all the grounds we visit a picture of him print them off and they go on his wall and he can remember every ground and what we done if people ask him about them,it sound corny but it's true money ain't everything when comes to family

Mate I've been plastering since I was 15 and stuck at it I've had dog abuse learning it and worked my arse off and I didn't really realise that by doing right thing was actually the wrong thing I was never around mate now I make sure I am and to be honest I actually love the break I'm having there will be a point where I will have to go at it again but these years are important, my mum has always said even though my grandad is loaded that as kids he was never around and yes they had all the latest stuff all the toys others wanted but couldn't afford one of first where they lived to get a colour tv the one thing she never had was my grandad around and u could see she was actually upset when saying it sort of hit home that it don't matter when your a kid all you want is your parents around,I get by and always will work cos I've got that in me and have always worked but at this moment in time I earn enough for bills and to go football i ain't hand to mouth and kids are happy I'm sure will change when baby number 3 is here in May but that's at back of my mind at min lol

Great post. One bit of advice that changed my take on parenting was "kids don't want your money....they want your time". We all forget now and then and get caught up in work and doing the house up, but when it does get like that I just stop and say, f**k it, no matter what happens tonight I'm sitting down with my daughter and watching bake off with her, or taking the lad to snooker for a few frames. One day, things will be quiet and no one around and we'll be yearning for these days now.

The worst for me mate is I never wanted kids and now have 2 and one on way I struggle with it for first couple of years then once they older I can cope not many will admit that but i really do struggle with it,I've got a great Mrs now my boy is my world as he don't live with me the time we do get is used to the max best feeling was when on way home from a game the other week he went if I could have any dad in world it would be u I would pick

Those sort of comments make it all worthwhile. I too was always worried about the responsibility of having kids and it is a pressure. I said to my daughter jokingly, will you love me when you're older, and I'm old and wrinkly..she replied, of course I'll love you, you're my dad.

I've just been explaining the 10-3 theory to the carpenter whose been waiting for me to unlock since 7.30 but since i only woke up at 8.35 he seemed a little bit waspy.
sorry Pete he reckons your a helmet and you can shove your 10-3 system up your hole (his words not mine).
I feel ok though just be 50m2 short now next payday :(.

Without being corny, @Pagey is on the right track. My dad is dead and gone for some time now, and I am old, but there are many instances in my life where I have fond memories of he and I together. Could be something someone says, something on the telly, a sound or a smell that brings up a vivid memory. Loads of good times. Funny thing, I can only remember a couple of times where he was angry with me....my dad was not financially rich, in fact he was pisspoor with money, but .......he was, and always will be......my dad.....(filling up now writing this)...

Make memories. They stand the test of time.

That's bang on. I feel genuinely fortunate that I realised this aged 23, left the city and the big bucks and downsized everything. There's a guy that lives near me that has a BMW with a number plate bmw 555 or some other weak b*ll***s like that. He must be in his 80s can barely see over the steering wheel and he has made no spiritual progress whatsoever. The things that they break their balls to attain, such as cars, massive houses etc might not even give them any enjoyment, they just do it because they feel it's expected. I'll be f**k*d if I'm falling for that horseshit.

Did you tell him it's scientifically proven though? And show him the Evidence on video from Oxford?

If you dropped dead tomorrow you'd get "ohhh how awful we are really sorry " they then would set about finding someone else .
Nothing more than a point of conversation.
So while your still here maybe not stress yerself out into an early grave.
:coffe:
